Genesis Reunion?

Phil Collins Says Genesis Reunion Possible
Nov 7, 11:15 AM EST

JERUSALEM (AP) -- Phil Collins says he's open to the idea of a Genesis reunion.

Nothing has been announced, but the 54-year-old British singer, who is touring the Middle East, says: "There's a possibility. I'm open for it."

"If it doesn't happen, it won't be because we don't want to. It will just be because there are too many things in the way," he said Sunday. "I'm happy to sit behind the drum kit and let Peter (Gabriel) be the singer, but if it happens, I'll be there."

Genesis formed in 1967, performing for more than 30 years before disbanding in 1998. Collins fronted the band after lead singer Gabriel left in 1975 to pursue a solo career.

Collins went solo in 1996.

"We're all still good friends. We spent like 30 or 25 years of our life in the same office," Collins said. "Just because we don't play in the same band anymore doesn't mean we don't see each other and enjoy each other's company."

I saw the Phil Collins lead Genesis in 1988. It was a good show but a bad concert experience as some drunk dumbass spilled her entire beer on my coat. It was 25 degrees and I had a little bit of a walk back to the car. And once in the car the I had to take off my coat and put it in the trunk. It stunk, I stunk. It was just a bad experience.

Gosh Ray, I remember that night too. If I remember correctly you were pretty drunk yourself

Really though, I bet it was still somewhat awesome?!?

Actually I was pretty sober. But after walking to the car I wish I was drunk. I just don't understand the people who go to concerts only to get so trashed they couldn't possibly remember the show the next day. I've had a good buzz going but never trashed.
That couldn't have been you in '88 you would have been like 16. This drunk chick was at least 20.

See, now as an 80's child I'm the opposite of JD.

I couldn't care less about a Gabriel led group, I hated their sound early on.

But a Collins led group would have me VERY excited.

well, some of that stuff from Duke and 3 sides live (post Gabriel) is probably their best work, but I just have the feeling that a reunion without Gabriel would be a INVISIBLE TOUCH sort of thing, whereas with Gabriel, you'd HAVE to get LAMB LAYS DOWN ON BROADWAY. If they were smart, perhaps 1 hr 15 minutes of each incarnation per concert would get TOP DOLLAR! Not too much of one or the other, but the best of both.

My brother and I and some friends went to the first KISS reunion tour in like 1997. This guy in front of us had KISS tatoos, was a member of the KISS army, etc etc and WOULD NOT SHUT UP about how KISS IS THE BEST BAND EVER WOOOO WOOO DUDE! DUUUUDE KISS FOREVER #&$#* WOOO WOOO. well, by the time KISS hit the stage, he was passed out in his chair, the stupid drunk. Missed the whole thing. I remember walking out, and dude was still sleeping in his chair.

If its not in a bar, nobody has any business being that loaded in a public place. I live close to Miller Park, and some week nights during the baseball season, if nothin is going on, I'll walk down to the park and get a cheap seat, a hot dog, a couple of beers and enjoy the evening at the ball-park.

The people, way up on the top level, by themselves, away from the crowd, are the baseball purists, who don't want a bunch of idiot drunks who do not know how to shut up and watch the game to ruin their evening.

One time at a game, I actually said to a drunk lady in front of me "you know, for being at a ballgame, you sure are not at the lgame are you". She said "Kid, (this was years ago)- its not about the game, its about me at the game."

I prefer to hit the far corners since that day.

I agree JD, the smart thing to do would be to split the lead vocals 50/50.

I do have to hear my invisible touch, and Land Of Confusion, and In Too Deep, and That's All, No Son Of Mine, I Can't Dance, etc.

But I could also deal with some Gabriel led stuff as well.

I hope they do get together again, it would be cool.

In the past I've read that the problem was always "who would be lead singer". From what I understood Gabriel didn't like the stuff they did after he left. It sounds to me like Collins is extending an olive branch and saying "fine, I'd do it his way and play just the older stuff".

No matter.

I'm still waiting for Diamond Dave to get back with Van Halen

That, my friend, is one of three things that JD will be regretting on his death-bed. Didn't see the Joshua Tour, never got to see Van Halen like at that US festival or Diver Down tour, didn't see The Police on the Synchronicity tour. If these are my death-bed regrets, then its been a good life. But still will my dying breath be "DAMN YOU DAVID LEE ROTH!?!?!?"

That could happen. Indeed. That, that could happen....

Dave tried getting back with Van Halen a couple years ago. It didn't work out. I think Eddie's head is too inflated at this point. I wish Dave would do some more solo stuff though!

I don't think Sammy even wants to play with him anymore!

I wish I would've seen VH back in the day also.  Diver Down would've been the tour.  That was the peak for me, although I wouldn't have turned my nose up at 1984.  I only saw VH on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour (purposely NOT abbreviated).

I can breath my last breath happily, though, because I did get to see the original members of KISS reunite.  They were the first concert I ever saw back in 1979 and I caught all 3 tours in the 90s-2000.

I loved (early) '80s Genesis and Phil Collins (Hello, I Must Be Going...).  I like the Peter Gabriel stuff that I've heard, too, but I don't know as much of it so I guess I'd rather see a Phil-fronted version...
