The (somewhat) Daily Check Ins of 2013

I've thought about taking some drum lessons. I think it would really help me with rhythm ideas and to develop a better "groove" on the bass.

Let's start a new daily thread, because...  Um yeah, just 'cuz.

So, I'm here.  I don't really have any resolutions this year.  Continue to work on the things I want to work on I guess.  I've got lots of plans in the works.

Good day, and in fact good 2013, all! Yep... I'm here too. It required a monumental effort to get out of the bed and come to work this morning, so I feel I have already accomplished something. Good thing too cuz it looks like that is about all that is getting done today. I've finished looking through my e-mail to see what I missed these last 2 weeks. The answer to that being "not much". I've replied to a grand total of 1 e-mail this far, and it was not the start to the year I was looking for. Back on the 21st, Little Man sent a request over to the support team for one of our databases asking them to look at why a particular transaction was not processing. An hour and a half later, he got a response of, "May be it's completed." Seriously. So I go look... nope. Still sitting in scheduled state since 12/21. So, my reply was, "No, it has not completed. It is still in scheduled state. This time, please actually investigate." I sure hope that is not a sign of how this year will go.

Anyhoo... cold here today, but by Friday it is supposed to start warming up a bit. Hope everybody had a great holiday season!

Let's try to have a good one out there!

Hello.

I'm hanging with the boy one more day. Mrs Web had to work today, but school is still out until tomorrow.

We're watching for FedEx to bring the boy's Christmas present that got delayed. He wanted a bean bag chair. There are NO bean bags in our town. Mrs Web was supposed to go to Omaha about a week before Christmas so she was going to find one then. She wasn't feeling well, plus with some snow, she decided not to go. We ended up ordering the bean bag from WalMart. It is finally "out for delivery".

I'm two days into a new photo-a-day. So far, so good.

Howdy all. I too am here trying to see what was going on while I was home being perfectly happy. It took me three hours to get through all my email. I even was able to tell my boss he approved something he shouldn't have. He didn't look at all the information. I think that also helps to once again prove my point in my email before my departure for the year. Since then I've been through the postal mail and more email that has arrived. Billing doesn't close until tomorrow so I have the rest of today and tomorrow to chase and complete a few other things that impact my revenue reporting. I think another email to IT is warranted. I am still awaiting completion of my project. After my stalking, I received an email the next day, on 12/14, that said she'd let me know once she had a commitment date from development. Again, I can't stress with them that nothing needs to be written. They just need to load the data in and have it run overnight, yet I have no email stating my project is ready for review in the test system. Grrr.

I can't say that I have made resolutions. But I did make decisions in the past two months that I have to work less and do the things that have now been put off for six years since I have been here. I would like to learn some Spanish. I also would like to learn to play the drums. I know it is easier for a kid to pick these things up. It definitely won't be easy for me as my brain doesn't work that way. But it will be good for it to try to learn new things. And I have to get moving. i am pathetically out of shape. And I need to get some toys sold. They are doing nothing for me sitting in a box. If I can get the Legos sold, I can afford a new treadmill. That would be good.

I didn't make any resolutions this year. I generally don't because I know how that goes. Usually my "recolutions" find me. Right now, it seems my resolution will be to make one of the programmers from my problem above actually fix something that is very wrong with his database. In the process of getting him to look at one problem, we ran across the greater issue I have been battling for several months now. His response in the past was "Oh, well... I guess you have a work around, so just do that.". Uh... yeah, I do. But that is not the point, now is it? If this frigging database's job is to build a trunk, then it should be capable of building a frigging trunk, right?

Ooh, I came up with a resolution!: Don't kill the Etch. I kept that resolution last year, so let's see if I can do it again.

Mema, would you like to borrow my resolution?

Yay, more Web photos!

Man Fuzzy, you need to live closer. I've been wanting to learn Spanish for years. I've always wanted to try to play the drums. I'm still trying to get back into the habit of running three times a week, but it's so COLD outside! We also cleaned out a closet last weekend and have a pile of stuff to get rid of. I have some porcelain dolls that I never liked but kept in case they were ever worth anything. I really don't think they are, and it's time for them to leave the house.

I probably should, but I like to keep the option open.

Third time in repeating myself to dude seems to maybe be the charm... I told him that it looks like the database has lost track of the default parameters it is supposed to use. This time he seems to have the idea that I might be on to something.

It would be good to have someone to play and converse with onb these things. We could teach other and it might work better for me. Although, I think you use the creative side of your brain every day so you may simply run away from me learning this stuff.

I am wondering if I should be concerned. It is kind of scary, but I feel good today. I don't know why. Maybe it is simply because I was off for so long and am rested and not constantly ticked off with coworkers. I had a decent night's sleep too. I did not have any issues getting up this morning. There was also not regular traffic this morning. It was light compared to how I thought it would be on the first day back in the new year. I'm sure the feeling won't last but I'll take it.

M - I don't understand how or why that your coworkers don't believe you when you tell them what is wrong. You did all the work. You know stuff. I don't why they have to make it hard on you and them. If they simply fix it the first time you tell them something is wrong you wouldn't have to give them a beat down.

I've messed around on drums just enough to know that I don't think I could ever be a drummer. It's that "rub your tummy, while patting your head, while stomping your foot every 1st, 2-1/2, 3rd, and 4-1/2 times" limb separation thing that I can't do.

Yeah, I suspect I'd have the same problems.  But I still want to try!

Just because I work for E and they work for our customer / my former employer. Though the dude I am working with knows better. He is trying. It is just difficult to get him to focus.

From the little bit I have played in the two or three days I am pretty sure I will have the same problem. If I had four parts of a brain that could operate independently I would probably make a fantastic drummer. This is why I say I am sure it is easier to learn when you are a kid and that my brain is not built to do the music thing. But as long as it is just me in the house, no one will ever be the wiser. You are all welcome to come over and play lousy with me. I got it! We'll each take one specific drum or cymbals and try to do it that way. Oh wait, that sounds even more complicated.

Alas, I believe percussion instruments are on the list of things they won't let me have around here. Generally I'm not allowed anything I could use to bludgeon or stab someone with.

Our Youth pastor is our drummer (he is very good) and he also gives lessons. He confirmed that the separation thing is the hardest part, but with practice, it can be learned. Just don't give up too soon, and have fun.

But M drums are for beating on when you can't beat on people.

Okay, maybe. Some fine day I am supposed to learn how to play golf too. The BFF suggests that he should give me golf lessons every spring. We talk about it for a bit, then he suddenly remembers that this would have me out in a public place, doing something I might find frustrating, and weilding a club. Then he always says, "Well, maybe next year, sweetie.".

Golf is frustrating. We have a little something extra that gets in the way of a good swing.

And so the real number crunching begins.

As I am sitting here running my reports and staring at the hockey puck, the squishy football and the world series trophy paper weight and the soccer team magnet (yes, my desk is clear enough right now that there isn't much on it) I realize that it has been a horrible season for all my sports team. I hope 2013 is better for all of them.

Good day, all. At least that is what I am hoping for. So far, it is not looking that way. I got a call last night from one of my cousins who is asking questions about my mom's personal information. She has been trying to get one thing or another out of my mom for the last couple years... generally money or a place to live. I know she was recently trying to get mom to co-sign for a car loan for her. I'm not really sure what she is up to, but whatever it is, I don't like it. I'm going to call mom in a bit and try to talk her into setting up that Lifelock service. Been talking with my sister about that all morning as the cousin called her too, the difference being my sister actually answered the phone and spoke with her whereas my phone battery was dead so she went to voicemail when she called me and I have not yet called her back.

Aside from that, one of the office wackadoos seems to think I have all day to do nothing but suss out why an application I have never had occassion to use is not working since we upgraded to Windows 7. I tried to pawn him off on the guy who is actually managing the upgrade. Speaking of which... i gotta go for now. Dude needs to look at my computer.

Ew, sticky business Mema.

Yeah, I'm the unofficial tech support person around here too. This morning I've had to try to help my boss get the 2013 tax rates into her payroll system. No, I've never used her accounting software. No, I don't even have a password. It's been a lot of, "Don't close that window, you still need that information," and, "Don't click that, then we'll have to start over." Followed of course by, "We need that window back. How did you get there?" People are going to start asking about their checks here in about 7 minutes, so I think she felt too rushed to think straight.

Yeah... I don't like having to get involved in these things. I called my mom earlier and we agreed to look at setting her up with a Lifelock account tomorrow. I'll feel better about it if I can actually get her to agree to doing this. Suppose I will call the cousin back tonight and see what she has to say to me. I'm told that she has been making the rounds around the family, pleading her tale of woe and misery. I'm sorry that her life has not turned out the way she wanted, but my sympathy is tempered with the fact that she got where she is by consistently making bad choices.

On the up side, the guy who is managing the Windows 7 upgrade did in fact get the application working on my computer. Now I can happily go back to ignoring the fact that I have it.

So, I see we're back around to this "Monday" thing again.

Football is winding down. It's a long, cold push until another holiday. This is always the most depressing time of year for me. I'm ready for Spring.

Keep on keep'n on.

Blah Monday. I still can't find my $23.23 problem with MD. The GL has that much more than my AR report. Grrr. You know I have to find it.

Agreed.  Except for the football thing.

It seems Fuzzy's having the same issue as I am.  It appears to be one of those gremlin filled days.  One customer says they didn't get their order, but UPS says they delivered it.  One of my suppliers shipped our stuff to the wrong address, got it returned, and didn't tell us, and now that it's late, won't overnight it.  Our paid listing on the yellow pages website won't update.  Just a bunch of little annoying first world problems.

Good day, all. I'll jump right on the 'meh' bandwagon. It was an okay enough weekend, but I already feel tired. I'd suppose that is because I just finished updating my switch passwords... a process which sucks anymore. 2 of the passwords update easily enough because I have an automated password change function for those. The passwords on the other 36 switches have to be done manually since those switches were last upgraded to a new processor. Doing that on a Monday just seems like such a daunting task, but I didn't want to put it off any longer lest I have to reapply for switch access which sucks even worse.

Ah well... on to the normal Monday hassle of weekly report running.

Hope everybody has a great day. I know you'll find the errant $23.23, Fuzzy.

For now I am ignoring the $23.23. I started with it late Friday afternnon. I thought a fresh set of eyes this morning would be better. That didn't work out so well for me. I moved on to complete other reports, schedules and then sent emails to the boss with appropriate stuff. The one file I sent to him I left the note telling him "No, I still haven't been able to figure out what the $23.23 variance between the GL and the AR report is." He would have sent the file back with the question anyway so I just saved us both a step. But a $1 says he still has something to say about it. But my entire year's salary says he wouldn't even know where to begin to look for the problem.

Did you look in the 2nd desk drawer down? It might be in there.
