Do you have anything that you traditionally eat on the first of the year for good luck or something like that?
Down here, they eat collard greens and hoppin johns- black eyed peas and rice. I started making it myself the last couple of years. They grow on you. Must have lots of salt!
well its kind of weird. Its like in this white sauce with onions in it...served chilled...I guess I liked it as a kid, but don't think I'd try it now...but yes its a traditional New Years side dish, served on crackers.
I think its good luck if it doesn't kill you?

Choice fillets of North Atlantic herring, skinned and boned, cut into bite-sized tidbits and hand packed in our own new cream sauce made with sour cream and chives.
Here is the place, near the University of WI, Milwaukee
In South Bend there is a large Polish and German population, and they always have pork and sauerkraut on New Years Day. Luckily, I am neither German, nor Polish.
