Yeah, I was sorry to see he decided to leave. Sounds like it was his decision.
He had two years left on his contract, and I doubt it had a clause guaranteeing him the head coaching job, so I'm not sure I agree with his walking away.
But it also says something that the Packers were ok with letting him do it, so maybe McCarthy had a different man in mind anyway.
Shoulda watched it, it was on all the local stations.
I did watch it and I agree, they were fine with him leaving. I don't think he was necesarrily in their plans.
But he did make a comment, which I won't repeat until I get a transcript, that sounded like he was suggesting he could no longer give 100% to his job since he was passed up for the head coach job.
I didn't care for that. Brought back memories of Rickey Henderson.
In his defense though, he was adamant at the start of his portion of the interview that he was not angry about losing out, that he understood it was part of the business.
