Morning -

Wow, what's up today!? Usually this early in the morning I can get a request right away - have I just not been around lately in the morning and it's grown?!

Mornin' all. Man, I am sick of winter. I saw the sun for 2 seconds yesterday, it was nice, but not quite enough. I need a trip to CP's.

Morning all. I am patiently awaiting the arrival of the weekend. Plenty of work to do and, as always and like everyone, not enough time to do it. I hope everyone has a productive day.

Ugh!

Good morning all!

Zim, the listeners we have just must all be requesters. 25 isn't many :( Right now we're at 42, but back in November when I'd get in here before 9 AM it would be 70 or 80!!!!

Those were the glory days :( We gotta figure out how to get back to triple digit audiences.

Mornin' It's 29 here. The high is 30. Ooooh don't have far to go. It feels much colder because the wind is whippin'. I have plenty of work to do today-since I didn't do much yesterday. We'll see how that goes.

That reminds me of a story from when I worked in a cabinet shop in Lincoln.

I had a purple t-shirt that for some reason, I started making it a point to wear that shirt every Thursday. I think it was becasue it was my favorite t-shirt and Thursday was kind of our Friday because we worked 9 hr days and got off at noon on Friday.

Anyway, a few of us started going out to eat at a close-by Burger King every Thursday. There was a girl that worked at Burger king that kept giving me crap about always wearing the same purple shirt on Thursdays. That started something . . . two other guys started wearing purple shirts on Thursday too, just to bug her.

Next, we devised a plan . . . we wore our purple shirts on a Wednesday and went to Burger King for lunch. She was freaked out! She thought she was sure it was Wednesday, but we all played it real cool. The manager had heard a little of this and she even turned and asked him what day it was and with a perfect poker face, he said "Thursday, why?".

By the time we got our "food", she was fully convinced it was Thursday but couldn't believe she lost a whole day in there somehow.

She let us have it the next week, as later she finally figured out it was actually Wednesday, but she got a good laugh out of it. I think she thought it was cool that we planned all that just to tease her a little.

Messing with fast food people is always fun.

Especially when the bill comes to something like $15.27. I have a $20 in hand and they assume thats it. So they punch in $20. I hand them the $20 and 30 cents in change. The read out says change is $4.73 but now they have an extra 30 cents in their hand and the wheels in the head grind to a halt. More than once I've had to tell the kid my change is $5.03.

Those are the times I'm glad I was a paperboy. I had to make change all the time and had to do it in my head.

Kids today. geesh.

You think that's bad.....

The other day I went to Wendy's and my bill came to 7.99.  I gave the girl EXACTLY 7.99 and she looked at it and asked how much change to give back.

What is this world coming to.

A few years ago, the owner of our movie theater here told me that he had to buy a computerized cash register because he couldn't find any high school kids that could figure and count change back.

Hey! Susan returned. Nice!

Whatever happened to mental math? Seriously, is it that hard to make change? I know I see it all the time, but it is wrong. The fact that a lot of stuff is computerized now, kids aren't forced to do the math, so they never learn to function mathematically on the fly.

I don't have any room to talk. I suck at math and am scared of registers. But my step-daughter gets to use a calculator for math in school. The teacher said at conferences-well we try to get them to catch on, but if they don't we got to move on. So a lot of them don't even have their basic flash card math memorized. I know my s-daughter doesn't know her multiples.

Hi all. I'm actually listening a bit early today. It was 29 degrees on the way in this morning, supposed to be up to 55 or so this afternoon.

Watching people count back change is painful... mostly I try to save them the agony by paying with my check card.

I'll tell you another one that is kind of scary. Velcro shoes have become such a fad in kids shoes that a lot of kids that are in 1st and 2nd grade can't tie their shoes. How crazy is that? They even told me when I signed my daughter up for Kindergarten not to buy her lace up shoes because they don't have time to help all the kids tie their shoes. Uhhhh...she can tie them her own self. Well, she can't, but we're trying! She's a lefty and it makes it a little weird. Her rabbit doesn't run the same way mine does.

I thought kids had to know how to tie their shoes before they got into school. And if they're not teaching kids how to tie their shoes in kindergarten, what are they teaching them?
