I just read Eragon and am now reading the sequel, Eldest. Pretty good if you like dragons and such, but written by a teenager, so it's pretty simple reading.

It's fantasy about a teenage boy who lives on a farm with his uncle who ends up becoming a dragon rider and saving their country from the evil king. Pretty typical fantasy story except that the author was 15 years old when he wrote it.

Thats amazing.....how many authors struggle their whole lives to be published and this kid has two books and doesnt even have his drivers license yet

it goes a bit deeper into details D- where-as the movie was like snippets of different events from the book. I like both the book and the movie, however the movie lends itself to a sequencial cohesiveness while the book is more like a history book than a novel. I just like the descriptions of some of the characters- makes history alive, bloody, but alive.

thats just it! it seems like bits of folklore, but does it does have some facts. A lot of the stuff was passed on through oral history, but some documentation is provided- like old newspaper clippings and stuff.


I think I'd recommend seeing the movie first if you already didn't, and then reading the book. If you love the movie, you'll love the book. 


The same author wrote The French Quarter. Great book if you've visited New Orleans and have an idea of the areas they are talking about, but a terrible book if you've never been there...

New York is such microcosm of American history...I think I may give that a read...

I actually prefer to read a book before I see the movie adaptaion....


Which raises the question....

Which do you prefer, the book or the movie adaptation? (in general)

generally, the book. I like the images it conjures in my imagination rather than being fed someone else's visual and audio interpretation.

Mad Mema. How many books were there in that series?

I saw the Hitchikers guide to the Galaxy and liked it.

Was "Mostly Harmless" as strong as the others in the series?

I heard the author died recently, is that true?

Just finished Uncle John's Bathroom Reader. Of course it did take me all year to read it though...


It's a book on History and useless crap, I mean facts.

Oh I love the Hitchhiker's Guide series!!! If you liked the movie, D, you should definately read the books. I've read them so many times though, I can't remember what events happened in which one, so I suggest just reading them all. And yes, the author died a few years ago.

The Bible is always a good read D!


 


I am more a magazine person right now- I get about 50 free a month. Makes it easier to have something lighter and shorter to read when you have kids!
