I always wear a long sleeve sweatshirt and it's just fine.
I can't stand paying $150 or $180 for a heating bill.
But I never expected $35. That's a record for me. Usually throughout the month there's a day or two I'll turn it up to 70 if I'm having company, but I think the last 30 days were probably a solid 55 or so the entire time. Add to that the fact we had a January that was 10 degrees above normal and I get a record setting low bill!
that is the ONLY drawback to keeping the heating bills down...the toilet seat is cold... LOL, and it sucks getting out of the shower too... thankfully my batheroom is pretty small... and i like HOT showers... so it gets nice and steamy, so its not too bad to get out
I got a small bathroom too, so I turn the hot shower on, shut the door and let it run a few minutes, by the time I'm ready to get in and out of the shower it's gotta be 90 degrees in there.
You gotta save $$ where you can. Unless you're loaded, which I am not.
Not in Wisconsin my friend. And not if you have a house.
I rent, but I basically rent a house, and a typical summer bill, if I keep the temperatures average (which I did the first two years I was here) would be:
Summer: $140 Electric / $15 Gas = Total $155
Winter: $60 Electric / $150 - $180 Gas = Total $210 - $240
Dang that is high! We just went over the 200 mark for the first month ever! Add 35 for Xmas lights!
I had a fit. I live with four people who have every computer, tv and light on at all times. Every bathroom light stays on. Duane goes to bed and always leaves at least three lights on and the tv for little E. They try real hard around here to drive me crazy! Short drive I know, but they are pushing the car!
yep thats why I coctail it up in the studio- to stay warm! its not actually a beret that I wear for jazz 101, its a stocking cap. One day I got too close to the mic and my lip froze to it. that was bad, very bad......

I think you are nutz. I keep my house at 80 during the winter. I freeze other wise. My gas bill comes in around 150, but that includes warming up the jaccuzzi from time to time as well. Summertime you don't even want to know. I also keep the house at 80, and on really hot days will turn it down to 76. My highest electric bill came in at over 800 for the month. I redid the hvac in the house this fall so I have two air conditioners. I hope it lowers my bill. I have the larger unit cooling the west side of the house and the smaller unit cooling the east side. But then too we are adding a room on the house. Fun Fun Fun,
We rent a small house. We don't turn up the heat past 55 degrees & our gas/electric bill was still $145! We have to kerosene heaters, electric blanket on the bed & regular blankets.

I'm with CP on this one, gas is not the place where I can cut costs. We keep our house at about 69 in the winter, and that's a comprimise. This year we got plastic for the windows, and it's made a world of difference. I do live in a townhouse, about 1100 sq feet, but our gas and electric usually come to around $100 every month in winter, and a bit less in summer since we don't always use the AC.
I'm just short of 1200 sq. feet with my place and I could never get the bill anywhere near $100 a month if I kept it at 69.
And this is a very well insulated place.
In fact, my landlord spent nearly a grand to buy these snap on insulating covers for the all the windows (instead of the plastic, these are heavy plexi-glass sheets that mount on tracks that go around the windows).
I knew weiner gees was ripping us off! (That's what everyone here calls them since they changed their name to WE Engergies a few years ago)
I rent a nice sized apartment yo. gas is included in the rent, heat with radiators included in the rent. My average electric bill is $17. $24 if I run the air conditioner a lot in the summer.
I locked into the lease for 16 months, so they can't raise the rent. 16 months will be july. I wonder how much they are going to try and sock me with for a new lease....
