Sorry . . . you are not going to get rid of me that easily.

I was just working in my woodshop this morning. I am building a display case for a fancy quilt. I promised that it would be done towards the end of this month. That's all, as Molly said, just w*ork. Actually, I've been kind of enjoying this project. Its been kind of fun to design and figure out a way to make this thing work.

You want a "Let's build a quilt display case by Easter thread?" lol

Not much to see yet. It's just a box with a glass front that will hang on the wall. The thing is that they want it so it will open up to easily to display different parts of the quilt at different times, etc. The tricky part is making it so it can open up and still have some strength.

I might take a few pics when it's done.

Ok, here ya go, Ruby.


I just set it up and temporarily clamped it together as it's not all in one piece yet.

It's about four feet square and will hang on the wall. The front will be one big piece of tempered glass. The sides that you see will actually be inside the box as there will be a solid locking door covering each end.

The cut-out hooks towards the top of each side is where the pole will set that the quilt will drape over. The idea will be to open the side doors, hang the quilt over the pole, then slide it in from either side. It is sized so that the quilt will be folded in half both ways, so 1/4 of it will be displayed.

I'm building this for an area church. I believe the story is that this quilt won a bunch of awards and contests and the lady that made it donated it to the church so they want a nice way to display it.

Actually, Molly is kind of right. I enjoy doing this kind of thing once. If I had to build the same thing over and over, I'd go nuts . . . I don't think I could ever do factory work.
