Someone was talking about movies they can't NOT watch when they come on.
I was surfing the TV this afternoon and THE SHINING was on A&E. Even though this movie spooks the hell out of me I can't turn it off once I've seen 1 minute of it.
I don't beleive ANYONE has ever played a creepier character than Jack Nicolson in this movie. The guy was just brilliant.
Yeah sir, but that is the truth. He freaked me out! He was a kind of scary that was too believable. Not like Jason or Michael or Frddie Kreuger scary- which you knew was fake, but a real, normal person who freaked out scary!
He was kind of a goofy guy already when he got to the hotel, but for the first hour of the movie he just HINTS at being insane at times, before totally losing it.
And what a GREAT concept for a movie. Caretaking for an old hotel over the harsh winter months, snowed in! FANTASTIC!
The best scary movies are the ones that seem like they could happen in real life.
Little nuances that make it spooky. Like when the kid sees the twin girls and they say they want him to play with them forever, and ever, and ever. And as they're saying that he's seeing dead kids on the floor.
Then LATER in the movie he's talking to Jack and he asks his dad if he likes the hotel, and the Dad says "I love it Danny. I wish we could stay here forever, and ever, and ever".
They did a remake not too long ago with the guy from Wings- not the main one, but his brother. Anyway, it was NOT the same Waste of time. There is no reason to redo that movie.
I agree about the Shining. Definately a crime to not have it.
Come Play with us Danny.
For ever and Ever
I do however have to disagree with you about the tv remake. I saw it and still have it on tape.
While definately not as good as the original, I do have to admit that I liked the extras they put into it.
Did you know Stephen King hated the original Shining? He had a hand in the remake and kept more of the book in the tv movie. The extras with the party when jack is Halucinating is quite wierd and more on the money.
I JUST LOVE the scene in the rest room where the waiter is the guy that eventually became the caretaker who eventually killed his family.
"My wife tried to stop me, so I corrected HER too!"
I'm gonna have some extra ca$h on the gift cards I got for my birthday. I think the shining will have to be added to the shopping list.
I have a tradition of watching Bill Murrays SCROOGED every Christmas (it's my favorite Christmas movie). I may have to start a tradition of watching THE SHINING every halloween.
AHHH! Did you have to post a picture of the girls!?! I nearly yelped out loud!
