Studio Envy

I saw this in todays Journal Sentinal and I had to share it, particularly with JD.

I don't know if you ever toured a radio station in your life JD, but I did when I was in my teens, back in the 80's.

They used to be a cool set up. HUGE control boards, usually the producer was in another room behind glass and the DJ or DJS were in a soundproof room surrounded by hundreds if not thousands of cartridges or records.

This photo of the WKTI studio blows me away. With the advent of computers, their setup is virtually no different than ours!

The only real difference I see is the producer Gino (in the back) has a mixing board!

Otherwise it's just three DJ's and a producer sitting around a table with a couple computers and a couple mics!

JUST LIKE US!

WOO HOO!

I did see this today riggs- in fact printed out some of the older pics of Reitman from back in the ZMF days! like beck says, 2 turn-tables and a microphone!

My bro and I used to volenteer to answer phones during the fund drives for the public jazz station right here a block a way from me back when they did local broadcasts. It was soooo cool to get to hang out at the station. it was awesome tho- DID THEY NEED THE FUNDING!!!! Everything reeked of 1970's even tho it was 1999- they still had the turn-tables, dial telephones in the studio LOL. I think the Freeze Frame set up would blow a few of the djs minds if they were to ever see it!!

Well I'll tell ya, I would really like, if I get some cashflow going this spring and summer, to completely remodel the studio to a more functional set-up.

As good as it is I think it could be SO much better. I'd like to have a set up that would allow for four or five people to be in here and on the air at the same time.

When Dylans band releases they're CD's in fall I'd love to have them all in studio for a show.

We gotta build this audience so we can justify some upgrades man!

riggs this thought occured to me today too- while looking back at the pics of Reitman and his career....we do have a bunch of each of our shows burned to cd for posterity's sake, and there are a few pics from the annual grill-outs, but we should start a photo archive of us in the studio- even if its an "annual broadcast pic" that we get gussied up for, say every March 1rst, or on the anniversary date of the inception of the studio...but just fun stuff to look back on 30 yrs from now.

That's a good point JD.

Someday when I'm in the old age home I'll be trying to tell my nurse about this and she'll think I'm just senile If I had some proof it might keep me from being forced to take meds that I don't really need.
