WESTON, Fla. - If any female juniors at Cypress Bay High School weren’t aware of classmate Paul Kim — they know him now.
The 17-year-old junior ordered 500 red roses and had them delivered to nearly all his female classmates on Valentine’s Day.
A card attached to the roses said, “To all the lovely ladies of 2007, here’s wishing you a Happy Valentine’s Day. Affectionately, Paul Kim.”
He said he used money he had been saving since his birthday in December to pay for the roses, which cost about $900.
“To me, Valentine’s is a special day,” Kim said. “I realized that not many girls would get anything and it would be an ordinary day. I figured I’d take the initiative and put a smile on their face.”
Sara Farinelli, 16, got her rose during her math class.
“I don’t know who this kid is, but he’s sending everyone a rose,” Farinelli said. “I think it’s a cute gesture.”
Kim’s estimate on the class size was slightly off. There are more than 600 girls in Cypress Bay’s junior class.
He said he got the idea Friday, when he saw the Business Professionals of America club was having trouble selling flowers as a fundraiser.
I'm really surprised at how cynical so many of the women here are!
This kid says he saw the sales problems of a club and came up with a way to help them.
He made a kind gesture, and claims it was with the girls in mind that might not get anything on that day.
He worked all year and spent his $900 on this.
Are we all SO used to no one doing nice things for the sake of being nice that we immediately assume the worst?
I mean, don't get me wrong, this kid is probably hoping to wind up with a girlfriend out of this, but then again, what's wrong with that?
What a story to tell their children if it works out!
Aaaaaaaaaah, cynicism makes me sad. I am a cynic myself in so many areas. This is one of the few I've managed to maintain an idealistic view of. Now you're all trying to trample this one for me too
sorry jr. you are right. he did good. i hope someone sees that and gives him back his $900 tripled (because good things come in 3's). please don't put on your angry eyes.

It's a great story, and I think he did it out of the goodness of his heart, not just to get a girlfriend. But, bad stuff happens to good people, and I have a feeling he'll get at least one obsessed girl out of it. I hate to say it, but that's the way it usually goes.
I'm mostly impressed that a high school kid donated $900 of his own money. I'll bet ya he gets into a good college.
It sounds like a scene out of a John Hughes movie to me
John Cryer would send the flowers, and the top cheerleader, who was dating Rob Lowe, the Quarterback of the football team would suddenly realize what a jerk he was and wind up falling for Cryer.
the thing about the nerdy guys is that as adults, they are usually the one's at the hs reunion that everyone has to do a double take on. same with the "ugly chicks" ... everyone else just gets bald and fat or saggy...
