Daytona Weekend

.. has started in ernest with a great Friday night . 1st up was the IROC race , Mark Martin got taken out by Sam Hornish , he weren' to happy bout that . A wild ride for Steve Kinser as he was on his roof at 175 mph for half a lap.  Matt Kenseth got the win.

Up next was an Awesome( with a capital A ! ) truck race with Mark Martin winning ! Nascar had warned the drivers about " aggresive " driving and they listened pretty good. With very little bumping going on it put the "race " back in raceing.  Different strategys and only a few cautions  combined with horsepower and DRIVER skill makes for good viewing !

Mark was going to retire from cup racing and do the truck thing but... he decided to give it another year for many reasons -  Loyalty to Jack Roush , mega fan support , and the lack of a Nascar championship all figured in . I think he was getting tired of always being the bridesmaid more than anything.

CP - you'd be the only driver in history to get put 5 laps down under a caution flag. lol

The Busch race finished a few minutes ago , it was a caution filled shnoozer till there was 5 to go. then it got good ,  Smoke got the win ,his team mate was 2nd ,  hard to tell who was next as they were wrecking out as they crossed the line.

Wondering about tomorrows race as the weather here has gone downhill fast, temps dropped to mid 50's and it's drizzzling , it might just stay to Daytonas' north but I doubt it. As I'm exited about the race and have everything outta the way so I can watch it , it'll rain and be post-poned till Monday.  The weather gods hate me .

it means winter is over here and not to far behind there !

I think this season will be a good one to watch , lots of off season changes should provide for some excitement ; will Bobby Labonte joining up with with the Petty's bring the 43 car back into victory lane ? ( they look not to bad so far ) Will Mikey Waltrip still work with JR at the plate races ?  Is RCR back out front in the plate races ?( see pole ! )  Will Kurt Busch stay sober ?  will someone smack Kyle Busch ?

Lots and lots of stuff going on in all 3 divisions , I think the biggest " change " will be in the truck series , look for more and more fans in the stands. With the likes of Mark Martin driving some races it can only help .  I also like the commercial with Cale in it : truck racing - what Nascar used to be ! ( he's right ) it's - no fear foot to floor rub the doors even the score come back for more- racing like it outta be!

side note-  lots happening in F-1 this winter too !

side note 2 -  it's neat that IROC is letting the 2 Rolex 24 hr. series champions drive in the series , they each will drive 2 races and combine the points earned. That was a great move on their part , more drivers from different series means more fans .

Better make some wholesale changes boys and you better do it quick !

Do ya suppose NASCAR officials are discussing a competion yellow on lap 20  ?

final thoughts on the race ,

Dale Jarret needs his azz kicked. Him taking out Jeff Green was pure bs going back to a couple of incidents from last year , to bad it took 3 other cars out of the race . I liked Carl Edwards apologizing to the Pettys , I liked Kyle's reply even more; he has nothing to apologize for , it weren't his fault.

Smoke had a bad day but.. he kept rebounding from each incident ,he earned  that 5th place finish .

Biggest surprise of the race - How well the Penske team ran ( Ryan Newman / Kurt Busch). In the top 5 most of the day.  Rusty might of retired a year to early lol.

Biggest disappointment - RCR ,Niether  Burton or Harvick  showed much of anything .

Who needs to be fired - Whoever is setting up Robbie Gordon's car . Once again a good finish is out the door as yet another right rear goes sailing off into the sunset.

Hats off to - Ken Schrader and Clint Bowyer . Top tens for both ! Not bad for a has-been and a rookie.

Driver of the week- Elliot Sadler , wins a 125 and gets a 4th place with zero help from team mates in the process .

 Rate a Race -  'bout an 8 .
