I had the privilege of introducing little E to the Muppet Show last night. My son knows of them from their movies, but not the real experience that was their variety show. I borrowed a three pack of episodes from the library last week. It had Bob Hope, George Burns and Dom Deluise in them. It was funny to watch both my kids. At first neither one was interested. But by the end of the first one they were hooked. They got to see everyone at their best- Animal, Beaker, Swedish Chef and of course the biggest ham- Miss Piggy.
It was a great experience for them to see what we saw as comedy and music. I remember getting excited about that show like I do now for Survivor or Earl. They always had the greatest guests and always made you laugh.
There is a Buffalo Springfield song coming up- For What is Worth- that played in one episode. It was hysterical- they had a forest filled with animals singing, when the chorus would end- hunters would come out shooting! It was such a great thing to laugh at!
"Tell me, does it move you, Does it soothe you, Does it fill your heart and soul with the roots of rock & roll? When you can't get through it you can listen to it with a 'na na na na', Well I've been there before" -"Been There Before" by Hanson
She loves the muppets! And Sesame Street too! She watched the Muppets take Manhattan, and Muppet Treasure Island with me. They were on HBO or one of the others.
That is what the boy knew, but it is not the same. Go rent the dvd!
I love the classic Muppets (I have Muppet Movie on DVD), but only the classic stuff. I know there's been several movies since, but to me, the Muppets died with Jim Henson. His son does a good job at keeping it alive, but it's not the same to me.
NBC is getting into the holiday spirit with "Letters to Santa -- A Muppets Christmas."
Whoopi Goldberg, "The Sopranos" alums Tony Sirico and Steve Schirripa, "Harry Potter" regular Richard Griffiths and Madison Pettis are set to star in the special alongside Kermit, Fozzie, Gonzo, Miss Piggy and the rest of the muppets gang.
"Letters" is set on Christmas Eve when Kermit and company mistakenly avert three letters en route to Santa Claus, which triggers a race against time to bring a happy Christmas to the kids whose wishes were lost in the mail.
The special, from Muppets Prods., will feature songs by "The Muppet Movie" songwriter Paul Williams.
It follows last year's ABC sepecial "Elmo's Christmas Countdown" that starred the Muppets' "Sesame Street" cousins as well as Sirico, Schirripa, Ben Stiller and Alicia Keys.
Goldberg is repped by WMA. Sirico is with McGowan Management.
