Genesis (both Collins and Gabriel) to reunite?!?!?

not sure about how valid this is, but if it's true, than this will be one hell of a tour

Legendary rockers GENESIS are reforming to record a new album and tour, it will be announced next week (begs13MAR06). PHIL COLLINS and PETER GABRIEL will reportedly reveal their plans to regroup the LAND OF CONFUSION band's classic line-up at a press conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday (14MAR06). Genesis last released a studio album in 1997. Gabriel left the band in 1976 to pursue a fruitful solo career, while Collins' own phenomenally successful solo career ran parallel to his time in Genesis.

I would pay $200 to see the Gabriel line-up! Not a dime for the just with Phil line-up unless they did nothing past the 3 sides live era!

if this is true, I am curious to hear the album.  I wonder if it'll be a Fleetwood Mac type of affair where Gabriel and Collins split tracks evenly.   With Gabriel in the picture, Phil might get some of the edge back that he lost around 20 years ago.   I don't know if a full on Gabriel and Collins Genesis album will sell the kind of volumes it would have in 1985, but who cares, this is going to be a great record bringing two great vocalists together.

I can't disagree with that assessment.

they'd have to pay me to sit through INVISIBLE TOUCH tho! Bet you Gabriel is already back at the hotel by the time the rest of the boys pull that one out.

not all post-Abacab was bad, you didn't like Mama, Tonight Tonight Tonight (well, beer commercials kinda ruined the song, but it is kind of a badass song) or No Son Of Mine?

I really think Mama was about it for me- and I'll blame broadcast radio and MTV for the overkill of the other stuff.  And I think the overplay of the Phil solo stuff too.

Oh man JD, I'd be the polar opposite, I HATED the Gabriel stuff, and with the exception of IN YOUR EYES I HATED his solo stuff too!

I'd LOVE to see the Phil Collins Genesis, with LAND OF CONFUSION, INVISIBLE TOUCH, IN TOO DEEP, THAT'S ALL, I could go on and on, but I won't

I had read some time ago that Gabriel didn't want to reunite unless they did it in the "early style", and Phil Collins had commented he'd be more than happy to let Gabriel sing and he'd just be the drummer.

So you may get your wish, and I may get screwed. AS PER USUAL!!!

personally, I'd like a best of both worlds reunion.   However, let's have "rocker Phil" (like up through the "Genesis" album) and not the sappy ballad-meister.   Rocker Phil and Peter together taking turns on the album (kinda like the way Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks split "Say You Will" 50/50) would make for a great album IMO.

Another "latter" Phil song that was good was Land Of Confusion IMO.

I had heard a while ago that this may be possible. Collins even said he would stick to the drums more and Gabriel could be lead vocals if it were to happen.

I like the idea!  I've always been a fan of Genesis - old & new stuff.

I lean more to Phil Collins than Peter Gabriel. I agree with riggs on that. But either way I think it would be cool. I enjoy a lot of Genesis songs.

I am thinking that if they go the OLD Genesis route, they are going to have to promote the sucker a lot, explaining that its OLD Genesis. I guarantee you 40% of the Milwaukee audience would be yelling "WHO IS THAT GUY WHY IS PHIL PLAYING DRUMS!!! WE WANT SUSUDIO YOU BONEHEADS!!!! IN THE AIR TONIGHT!!!!"

milwaukee has lunk-heads like that. (riggs is in good company!)

That would be like me. I really only knew Genesis after Gabriel was gone.

that early stuff on stage makes early bowie seem tame even! gabriel used to dress up in a suit of grapes and tear them off and scream!

JD, did you just call me a lunk head?

I don't think I can cut your salary any further.

Next week you'll be sitting on a sharp stick instead of your normal cushy studio chair!

lets hope Peter can put aside his ego for a tour and remember that it's every bit Phil's band as his.   I wouldn't mind them being ala "Fleetwood Mac" where they take turns singing, because while Peter was the originator,  it was Phil that kept the band afloat and brought some of their biggest commercial success (granted, they had all but sold out by Invisible Touch, but still).   Peter and Phil are both grown men, they should be able to share the attention, because with Genesis, you have fans of both eras who think Peter and Phil are equals.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

I hate that "sold out" stuff. I think that's why I dislike the early Genesis stuff, because I know that just like other groups fans think it's not as good because it was more commercial.

There's only two types of music in my opinion.

GOOD MUSIC and BAD MUSIC

It might be fun, it might be fluffy, it might be serious, it might have a message, it might be hard rock or it might be soft pop. If it sounds good it's GOOD!

There was NOTHING wrong with the Invisible Touch album. It was good, catchy music that sold in the millions.

Theres this artsy fartsy attitude with some people that says if too many people like it then it can't be good. That's a load of crap.

These are the same people that sit and stare at some blob of paint on a wall and determine the artist was trying to show the fight between good and evil in contemporary society while still trying to maintain a blah blah blah blah blah! It's a frickin' blob of paint on the wall dammit!

Again. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!

PS. This wasn't aimed at you Anf, it's always been something that drives me nuts.

well, Invisible Touch wasn't that much of a sellout IMO,  not as much as "But Seriously" and "Tarzan" were.   "We Can't Dance" had some good songs on it, but there was also some "sell out" stuff on that, since there were way too many Phil Collins ballads on that one, and Genesis were supposed to be the rockier side of Phil.   To me, "Invisible Touch" is about the end of the line for Phil, both Genesis and solo, I liked a few songs since, but he ended up becoming way too AC compared to the rocker he was before then.   I keep hoping he's going to pull an Elton John and do an about-face and rock again, like how Elton's last two albums were a total turnaround from his 90's soft rock.

Most people seem to have no problems with Abacab, Duke and the sort, which were Phil-led albums and they all had several hit singles on that too.  "Missunderstanding" was just as mainstream as anything off Invisible Touch IMO.  I think it's more Phil's image than anything since by Invisible Touch, he was the funny little guy who was on MTV all the time, while in the earlier albums he sang lead on, he was more of a rocker and less a personality.

one thing I've been curious is why Phil never sings Genesis songs in concert.  I know some artists shun their previous bands work in lieu for the solo songs, but to me, it's different since Phil and Genesis ran concurrently for many years, and these were the superstar years for Phil.   I bought the Farewell Tour DVD (a great bargain, an excellent 2 1/2 hour concert, 20 of the MTV music videos, a documentary and even a really campy TV special Phil filmed for CBS that aired to promote But Seriously, all for $20), but yet NO Genesis at all.  I know PC and Genesis were two seperate entities, but Invisible Touch/We Can't Dance were both such huge records because they came out in the midst of Phil-mania and were treated as "new Phil Collins records" that just happened to have the Genesis name on there.

BTW, "The Video Show" DVD by Genesis is also a great deal if you like the PC era, EVERY video they made from 1976-1999, even though the MTV "Three Sides Live" version of Turn It On Again isn't there, but instead the original 1980 promo clip instead.
