JD's Ma Not Really Understanding the Advantages of e-mail...

"Hey mom that potato soup was good- could I have the recipie?"

"Hi, glad you liked the soup. I'll write it out and mail it to you. Talk soon, Love Mom"

aww, sounds like my ma.  no, actually my ma barely even uses the atm.  i guess you'll have to send her another e-mail gently reminding her about the wonderful world of e-mail!

It could be worse, JD.  My mom won't have an ATM card.  She has tons of credit cards so she is well versed in the use of plastic-fantastic.  She just doesn't trust "those money machines".  She thinks there is a trick to it.  I've explained it to her a thousand times... how the fees work at 'foreign' ATMs.  How the check card functionality works.  Not having it.

Oh yeah... I also tried to get her to use a calling card once while she was on a road trip. Instructions right on the back.  She couldn't cope.

Reminds me of the old guy who came into Radio Shack when I worked there, he brought in his cordless phone 3 times and told me it didn't work. I would plug it in and it was just fine. Finally after the 3rd time I asked him to show me what he was doing. He picke it up held it like a walkie talkie and said Hello, Hello! Over..

DOH!  My mom does get the functionality of a cell phone.  My sister finally got her one because she works nights and travels frequently.  I was totally amazed that she was willing to use it.

My mom is almost the same way - she'll write up what she wants to say and gives it to my dad to email me.  She doesn't even like the pc.  My parents recently got a cell phone because they're going to do quite a bit of traveling this summer - I just know only my dad will end up using it!  Thankfully my dad is very "technology" minded.

My ma does actually have a PC. I set her up with internet access so she could e-mail me and my sister.  That lasted about 1 day.  She refused to go check her e-mail, then subsequently disabled the internet access because she thought someone was going to read her e-mail.  Not like my brother or the grandkids... you guessed it... the government. That was way before whole domestic surveillence thing came out.  It's not as if she has never experienced e-mail before.  She only retired from her secretarial job a couple years ago.  Is worth noting that she was a secretary working for the federal government...

When my dad first got his limited ham radio license, we talked quite a bit. He would get very frustrated at mom because legally, she could talk to me on it as long as he was there, but she would't talk to me for nothing . . . instead, she'd sit back and say "Tell him blah blah, don't forget to ask him blah blah".
