Musicians attending concerts

I was listening to a local radio station on the drive to work, and they were interviewing a famous musician (I'll reveal who it is later), who says he doesn't go to other musician's concerts. He said that's his job, so once he's done, he doesn't want to go back to his place of work. He asked the DJ if they go to other radio stations when they get off of work.

This seems wrong to me. I think he has his priorities mixed up. If he's making music just because it's a job, then I think he's doing it for all the wrong reasons. There's a Sammy Hagar song called, "Would You Do It For Free?" I would bet if this guy wasn't rich and famous, he wouldn't be making music. It surprises me that he's done as well as he has if it's just a job.

I'd understand if he said he doesn't go because of the crowds, etc. But to me, if he won't go to other people's concerts, why should anyone go to his? Am I off base here?

No you are not off base. There are people that love music soooooooo much and wish that they could make the wonderful music but do not have that talent- only the love!

Then usually those that are in the music biz LOVE MUSIC and appreciate others talent. I don't get this person.

this reminds me of my daughter -- she was accepted into the fine arts program at the college she attends (by the skin of her teeth).  i tease her that she is not real smart but she can paint pretty pictures.  the truth is, she has the passion and she loves to learn from others, and appreciates their work.  her instructors told her that there are students there that do well academicly and want to be artists, but don't have the passion or appreciation.

I have seen famous musicians at other band's concerts many many times.  In fact, the last concert I attended, which was on Sunday night - Eddie Ojeda from Twisted Sister was in attendance.  Sitting right next to me, as a matter of fact.  That's pretty normal from what I've seen.

No, I don't get this person either.  Most musicians I know love to go to other shows.  Unless there is the problem of being recognized and mobbed, which is always possible.  But then a lot of places will have special VIP sections set up to avoid that sort of thing.

It was John Mellencamp. I've gotten the impression that he's a bit full of himself before. I have a few friends that work in resturants around Bloomington, and they all say that he wants the celebrity treatment, but that he doesn't want to acknowledge his fans.
