Coffee

So this am at 5:30 when I remembered that we were out of coffee I drove to get some and ended up at McDs. Their new coffee ROCKS! So when I went to the grocery store tonight to replace some I vowed no more Maxwell House or Folgers. So I got some called Seattle's Best- it was expensive and on sale- so I will see in the morning. Anyway- there is a point- what do you like? Any suggestions? I do not like the Starbucks deep rich coffees though.

Here in Milwaukee its Alterra Coffee Roasters. I CAN'T STAND coffee not theirs anymore, they're that good. Although Starbucks is a real close 2nd, and I can deal with this and not be too dissapointed. Especially if its their Cafe Verona.....that coffee is SOOO GOOD!

Here is the ALterra site http://www.alterracoffee.com/

If you don't like dark rich coffees, you wont like this stuff tho. I am interested to try the McDonalds stuff. Brilliant marketing on their part. I have, on weekends, avoided going to Mcdonalds for breakfast due to the fact that their coffee was inferior to say, Starbucks. I could grab a bite to eat at the local diner, drink OJ there, and go get a VENTI CAFE VERONA at the 'Bucks. BUT if the McDonaldland coffee is AS good, I would like the convenience of a McWaffelo or whatever gotten thru the drive-thru and a PHAT AWESOME coffee!

I guess Ronald McDonald is giving out free small coffees here in town to bait folk...

Yeah, definitely not worthy of everyday, but a treat- if you can behave the rest of the day!

To me, no coffee is good coffee.  I like the smell but not the taste.

How do you explain Starbucks success at 4 bucks a cup?

I'm convinced they lace their coffee with crack. They're building a Starbucks less than a block from my house. There goes all my money. And, this will be the 6th Starbucks in Bloomington! But I guess college kids need their coffee, and have mommy and daddy pay for it.

The best coffee I've ever had is Jamaca Blue Mountain. I can only find it at ethnic food stores and it's $15 a pound, so I usually only get it as a gift for someone else. For everyday coffee, I usually get the Kenya blend from the same ethnic store called Sahara Mart. Plus, Sahara Mart only sells free trade coffee, sot hat makes me feel better about it too.

Molly, what does the Jamaican blue blend taste like...fuller body? Sweet? Bitter?

Very full, kind of sweet but not flavored, very creamy, I never have to add creamer.

I'm more of a cappuccino kinda girl. But I don't drink it often. I like to go to Coffee Beanery and get a Cafe Caramel or a frozen Black & White. Can't really explain the B&W just like it. I have a cappuccino machine at home, but I hate cleaning it, so it collects dust mostly.

I do have some flavored coffees from Gevalia though. Mocha for me Irish Cream for hubby.

we have java daves here.  my other personality likes java daves amaretto or the full city espresso; but my personality who lives in the real world is poor and rather thrifty and buys folgers.

I think the people in a Starbucks like to be seen there as having the expendable income to order their double-cupped chia-mocha frabbioes and what-not.

I did not care for the Seattle's best, but hubby said not bad- so seven bucks not wasted on him. I will try to change the amount of grounds I used and see if that helps. I will look into your suggestions. Thanks!
