Cold sores

Ok a personal question- do you get cold sores? My hubby does- sun, wind and stress bring them on. I read today to try Lysine to keep them from coming. My hubby takes Valtrex when he gets one- you only take 4, but they are prescription only pills and are $8 a pill! Anyone have any info?

I just use Abreva. It's like $12 or more dollars for a tiny tube, but it works.


I only get them once in awhile, stress or being sick with a fever.

Aren't cold sores a type of herpes or something like that? I don't get them, my hubby doesn't get them, so I don't know.

Now, every few years I'll get a canker sore, but that's usually when I'm already sick with something else and I just put Ambesol on it.

No open sores of any kind here. But as my ol Grand Pappy used to say, Rub some dirt in it you Wuse!

This Lysine is too keep them from coming at all. Cold sores are a form of herpes- just a different virus than genital! But Valtrex treats both. Abreva stinks compared to Valtrex Woo. It works quick and heals REAL good, but expensive.

Nasty litle beggars - I get one occasionally...and touch Wood... I have not had one for ages... I usually smear some cream on with Acyclovir in it...as soon as you feel that tingle...

I got one the day after I had a C-section.  Apparently lots of people have the virus but never develop the sores until surgery.  I guess since it's very invasive, the virus jusps up & says, "howdy doo".  I haven't had one since (11+ years).  Yep.  I'm knocking wood, too.

I dont remember ever having a cold sore, but it is very common..

No surgery planned eiether , knock on wood
