Weight lose/Wellness update

Well, we know that Web's cholesterol test came back great, so obviously he's making some great progress. Personally, I had felt that I had met my goal by establishing and maintaining a weekly exercise schedule and routine.

But now I have a problem. I haven't went to the gym in a week because I've been feeling bad with allergy problems. I thought that I would go to the doctor last night and he would give me something to make me feel better, but that wasn't exactly the case, and now I have a headache and just want to go to bed. I'm trying to determine if I'm just using not feeling well as an excuse, or if I really would be miserable if I tried to work out. Any thoughts or suggestions?

If its any consolation, I haven't seen the inside of a gym in 3 weeks. Too much work, too much the weather is getting nice. I am thinking about buying an excersise bike for at home maybe...

Yes, I am really happy about my test results. Since they were so much better than I expected, now I'm struggling with the fight to slack off on my eating healthy and exercise. Kind of like the goal has been met, now what?

I suppose my next step should be to work on more weight loss. I lost the initial 7 lbs. and then that just stopped. I've not gained any back, not lost any more. I'm stuck at 197lbs.

I don't know Mz. If you really don't feel well, you don't feel well. Especially where its your allergies which effects your breathing. I don't think its just an excuse.

Maybe just try pushing through and working out lighter than normal and just see how you feel? Maybe the "I'm glad I did it" will be stronger than the "I don't feel like going" ??

Yeah, I have the busy problem too, but I don't want to use lack of time as an excuse not to exercise. I really need to work late a couple hours to finish a project here sometime very soon, when I work out the entire thing, from the drive to getting changed and showering to actually working out, usually takes me 2 hours. And we have plans for tomorrow night, we desperately need groceries, and I've sworn off going to the grocery store on the weekends anymore for the good of all people at the south side Bloomington Kroger.

I want to say I'm going to take tonight off and just go on Saturday, but that's what I've been saying for the past week, "I'm not going to go tonight, I'll just go on my next scheduled day." And of course, the next day I say the exact same thing.

I guess I'm looking for permission to say that to myself again.

i have the same problem.  along with being a sugar addict / binger.  i have to make myself go even in i have something else to do (or would rather do which is usually nothing).  i haven't lost any weight, BUT, i have more flexibility and i am able to endure longer walks on the treadmill or up stairs.  it's all a matter of just doing it.  plus it's a way to get away from my husband, kids, work etc., even for an hour a day.  i don't go on wednesdays because it's "lost night" and it's the night i wash clothes, but on commercial breaks, i use the ball and exercise bands.  anything is better than nothing.  it's just a rut, you'll work it back in.

yep -its all about making the time to go. Plus my gym has been absolutely packed morning noon and night the last couple of years, so there's that en-masse sweaty humanity thing....definately thinking bike.....I could do 30 minutes a day on that easily. Heck it takes me that long just to get everything together to go to the gym and wait in line.....

I've pretty much given up on Monday nights at the gym. I get way too tired of waiting on machines. Since part of the point in going there is stress relief, it just doesn't make sense to get stressed about not being able to get my workout done like I want to.

Most every other night isn't so bad. Monday just seems to be popular for those who feel guilty about their weekends.

Yeah, I used to do Mon/Wed/Fri, but due to classes and such, I spent most of my time waiting on the equipment I needed. Mz and I have switched to Tues/Thur/Sat/Sun, which usually works well.

You are too funny, Pip!

I absolutely love going to the gym when I have the time to put in a good workout. Since I don't go to the corporate fitness center anymore, I don't know very many of the people at the gym I use.  Occasionally I run into one of my neighbors.  There is a lady I have known since I was a little kid that sometimes goes there, but otherwise the only person I generally converse with is Big Robert from the front desk.  That is a good thing for me because I get my "me" time in that way.

My family and friends generally don't mess with gym time. I don't go out of my way to socialize with the other gym patrons, so they generally leave me alone too. I'm not rude or impolite in any way... I just don't talk to other people there unless proper gym etiquette requires me to do so.  It is the one time I don't have to worry about my appearance, be politically correct, or worry about someone's deadline (aside from closing time), or deal with anyone else's problems.

I totally agree! When I'm at the gym, my only focus is on me and my headphones, I don't want to have to worry about carrying on polite conversation.

Sorry to hear about the allergies Mz Molly...if your allergies are kicking your butt, just make it a point to restart when you can. Like Web suggested, if you want to go in and try doing what you can...it may be a good barometer, but listen to your body...if exercise makes you feel worse stop...if it makes you feel somewhat better...then do what you can.

Doing a little of anything is better than just sitting on Uranus.
