United 93

This movie opens today. Is anybody interested in seeing it? Hubby keeps asking me so I know that he really wants to see it. A part of me does, but I know that I will be a blubbering mess! I will most likely go though. There are mixed feelings as whether it is the right time for this and the other movie about it to be coming out. But really when is the right time? It will be painful either way. More so because this is an event that we actually lived through.

I don't have any interest in seeing it yet. Has anyone heard if they are doing anything special with the proceeds? I can't help but feel that someone is profiting off of a national tragedy, and I don't want to put an extra buck in their wallet.

10% of the movie's proceeds for the first 3 days will go to the memorial fund. At least that is what I heard on the radio.

10%? That's it? And only for the first 3 days? Maybe I'm just spoiled by Mz's COTA experiences, but I'm not very satisfied with that. It still sounds like someone making major bucks off of a national tragedy.

I think it is put out there to make profit from a tragedy, and to be a propoganda piece.

I really don't have an interest in seeing it. We all lived it. And while I realize that it is not possible not to know exactly what occured on that flight, I don't think it can be accurate. Everyone was exposed to it, but we had a little more with the flight going down within the state.

what a shame.  10 stinkin' percent, huh?  and only for the first three days?  i hope it is a boxoffice flop!  these people have no shame.  they're like a bunch of (insert profanity here) vultures!  i don't think it's a propaganda thing.  money --  all the way.  sensationalism.  just disgusting.

i apologize for such a harsh reaction.  i really feel animosity when it is aparent that others are profiting off of others misfortunes.  i just don't understand the justification.  my apologies for going berzerk...

aw its a good topic woo!

Personally, out of respect for the trajedy, I don't think someone has the right to go ahead and recreate what they believe actually happened. certainly not just 4 1/2 yrs after it did, and while we are still at war. What is the purpose of that other than to be a propoganda peice to rally people behind the war, and to profit from tragedy. I don't respect that.

You don't have anything to apologize about. This is how you feel and that's what the forum is about. I just really didn't mean to stir things up. Especially on a Happy Friday! I really didn't think about the reaction it would get when I posted the topic. The topic was on my mind so I posted it. So it's my own fault for not thinkin' first.

There is no fault here. That is what we do. We post and discuss.

No worries, it's just a discussion, and there's still plenty of happy stuff for a Friday. The movie itself is still controversial enough (I think that's pretty evident here), that I think we're all saying yes, it is too early.

I am torn on seeing this movie. I do want to see it but like Woo I probably would be cryng in my cookie batter as i stirred the mix for my Chocolate covered cherry cookies.

I am more interested in seeing Posideon instead. nobody can replace the original cast of the 70s suspense movie. The Movie starred the Late 2 time oscar winner Shelly Winters, Jack Albertson, Pamela Sue Martin, Stella Stevens, Ernest Borgnine,Gene Jackman,Roddy Mc Dowall, Red Buttons, Carol Lynley, and Leslie Neilson

The cast of The Poseidon Adventure

Ok we saw United 93 on Sunday. I think it was done well. There was only one part of the movie that I didn't like and that was seeing the hijackers side of it. I don't care what they believed or if they were scared! It wasn't a big focus though. I found out that the victims' families had a lot of input. Many of the actors spoke with the family members to help them with who they were portraying. Some people that were involved on the other ends actually played themselves. I reacted better than I thought I would. I'm glad that I saw it. I don't think that I am ready for "The World Trade Center" movie with Nicholas Cage though. That may be too much.
