The punishment of the boy...

Well he got slammed again! A dime bag around here is a federal offense if you are juvenille. Don't think I condone what he did, but he got hit hard again today. HE BETTER LEARN A LESSON. I have to wonder what makes people repeat offenders!

25 hours community service and a 200 word paper

watch some violent movie (the three of us) at the library- some shock value thing- have to set up a time to watch it in private- 200 word paper

read some book called Teen Addiction- 200 word paper

Do a tour of a juvenille dentention center- 200 word paper

meet with Charleston Narcotics and rat out his supplier

CPR certification

Two hair toxicogoly tests 45 days apart from a licensed Criminologist Toxicologist (my expense)

Call 211- teen hotline- request some materials and 5 200 word papers on each brochure!

If in the next 4 years he gets in ANY trouble- back in court for the original charge, if he stays clean- they expunge his record (which I think they would do anyway!)

Anyway- 90 days to get all this done

Thanks for the prayers- keep em coming!

When you say the three of us, is his dad involved? I hope!

DAMN!  i don't like the ratting out the supplier part.  times are way different than they were in the 80's.  what kind of protection do they offer for snitching?  good grief, those ****s should let him back in school.  it was only a dime bag?  (not condoning) it's not like he was peddling meth...

okay, the worst is over...  now we know where we are going and how we're going to get there.

God bless you and your family, ruby.  i have faith that y'all will be taken care of.

I think that bothers me the most still, kicking him out of school. The legal and school system should work together! All this to me is too much- let him stay in school, but do all the other stuff. Like I said, I do not know how kids keep getting in trouble after they go through this.

I know a guy who got busted with a dime bag- his punishment- a small fine and he had to do some correspondence drug program and then pay $30 when he was done and his record was expunged. It was not even his first offense! I did NOT tell Zach that though, do not want him to get any madder or confused! I do understand they are trying to stop the habit before it gets out of control, but still too inequitable.

Ok I will leave it alone and move on with this phase. School is still a mystery to us

Not all judges pass out the same sentences. Ruby, to who'm much is given, much is expected. Sometimes, a stern punishment may be a blessing in disguise. Pray for wisdom.

Sorry to hear that he got hit so hard Ruby, he doesn't deserve that much as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks all, keep praying. I just hope he can stay out of trouble til he is 18. That is so hard to do. The schools call the police for everything. My biggest fear is him getting into a fight in high school. He is little and the high school is not racially balanced. I read through the paperwork and his drug test has to be today or tomorrow. I will keep all posted.

So the $200 drug test might be an issue- the boy has a shaved head (number2) and no real body hair. The test guy said he might be able to do a 1 month test. Making the boy call tomorrow to see what they say Also the CPR thing is another $50, but might get that done Wednesday- he will have to go with some people tring to get their diving certification. This is sooo ridiculous!

Wait a sec, what exactly is the drug test for? To see if he's done any drugs since the incident? Doesn't the hair test show if he's done drugs in the past couple months? Aren't they more concerned about if he's done anything more recently?

I don't know enough about this stuff, so maybe I'm just confused, but I would think they'd actually prefer a urine test in this case.

Oh the arbitrator is convinced that Zach is a heavy drug user. He ordered the hair follicle test to check for everything he has done for the last six months. Then he will order another in within 90 days. Then they can see if he did test positive for something, did he stop or continue to keep using. So I guess he will be mad when he finds out that he can only see back 45 days at the most. The boy still has not fessed up to anything, so I am hoping we will prove him wrong. Got a three day wait.

That is very true Molly. My friend had to go through this. She would have to call in to see if her color was called. If her color was called then she had to go take & pay for a urine test.

Ah, I see. So what happens in 3 days, he can't shave and they pluck hair then?

No the results come back- the toxicologist did collect samples yesterday and they run their tests. The reason for no urine test is because most drugs are out of the system quickly that way, but stay in the hair forever. Also there are things you can buy to fake a urine test, not a hair test.

That's why I figured they would want the urine test, I thought they'd want the recent results, not the old ones.

That's great news!!!!! So, that means he wasn't actually doing any of the drugs the whole time, right?

There was a story of a star high school baseball player here arrested for dealing heroin on 2 occasions to some undercover officers....

If your son had been able to make some easy money initially, who knows what might have happened. Be glad he was caught early in the process before he got in too deep.

Pray he learns from this. Second chances dont come along too aften.

I got some AWESOME news- the boy is going to high school- no summer school even. My hubby said that it is not fair to the other kids. But I reminded him, the boy got a "dishonorable discharge"that will follow him for the next four years (at least) Hewill be a marked kid- "oooh he got kicked out of 8th grade for selling drugs." I am thinking the girls that will fall for him will be girls rebeling against their moms!

Anyway he still has a million things to do to get out of trouble with the law and he has to stay COMPLETELY out of trouble for the next four years. Even I had several run ins with the law when I was a kid- being at underage parties and "parking" in a makeout site and getting busted. So he may be getting off a little bit, he made a messy bed and has to sleep in it.

Only time will tell. Something like this would change me, but I am not a 14 year old boy and did not have to face what he does. I can only pray and try my best.

I agree JD, I am so glad that the principal worked that out. Like I said before- she never thought he would get expelled and I felt in my heart that she thought it should have been her decision to make. So she did what was in her power- to promote him to high school without finishing 8th grade. I am not worried about his lack of knowledge- he is very smart and catches on quick.
