9 to 5 at 1!!!!

Can I tell you!

I left work at 1 pm cuz the network, e-mail, and internet is all screwed up sporadically with no fix near in site. The most work  I did all day was the Rob is a Knob thread.

So I get out, and am thinking let me go get some allergy stuff at Target. Do I want to bother with the rain, the crowds etc...yes. So I went there.

OMG are we missing the GOOD LIFE by being at work 9-5!!! There was hardly anyone there!!!! Just a few folks strolling around, looking at stuff. I had my pick of 3 registers NO WAITING! It was SOOO calm!!!

There was very little traffic on the roads! Nobody ahead of me!!! nice calm drive. I then went to the grocery store. NOBODY THERE. I GOT TO PARK UP FRONT!!! no clogged isles with screaming kids and carts. nobody breathing down your neck waiting for you to get out of their way so they can look at what you are looking at. IT WAS AS CALM AS THE MUSIC THEY PIPE IN!!! just a few little old people milling about, the kind ones who nod and smile hello. A few new mothers playing with their babies......it was delightful! Same in the check-out lines. My pick of anyone I wanted. UNBELIEVEABLE!!!

I stopped by the greasy spoon for a sandwich, thinking that "well it might be busy with the weekday lunch crowd. NOT AT ALL!!! I got to sit & chat with my favorite waitress, only a few folks in the place!

and in a few short hours, the rush hour chaos will begin. It was SO NICE to avoid that today. IT IS A DIFFERENT AND BETTER WORLD at 1 pm in our 9 to 5 world!!!

I know what you mean JD. I had one job where I could pretty much set my own hours, so I worked 8-5 M, T, Th, F, S, so I had Wednesdays off. That's when I did all of my groceries and errands. It was so nice.

I could have told you that happens. It is a nice thing. Now I can do that everyday if I so desire.

My dad once had a job where he could do 4 10 hr days instead of 5 8 hrs days. I'd sooo do that!

I did that for like two of my three final weeks - or at least close to it. 4 10 hr days. It made sense. I accopmplished a lot, they could call late (because they always did) and it gave me one Friday off and another Friday for a half day.

i'd like to be able to come in around 6 am ish and be off by 3, but can't do that with kids.  my husband works 4 10's, off on friday's (or OT).  he goes in around 5 am ish and leave around 3:30.  i so love this because by the time i get home from work and rounding up the kids, it's 6 pm ish, and supper is ready and on the table.  i get dish duty.

he really does wears the pants (but i tell him which one's  ).  seriously, he's a great help!

Not really Sparky. There are quite a few jobs available down a ways, but the drive will just kill me. Or rather, I may kill somone. It is a major area past where I used to work. It is a major artery of four major roadways. But I don't want to take an extra hour just to get another five or ten miles. I have been trying to stay closer to the house. I am still in running for the local government job, but that is becuase they are still processing everything. I would really like that job. I could walk to work, it is less than a mile from the house.

I prefer to wear shorts myself. But then again, I am the boss of me.

JD,

That's one of the BIGGEST reasons I loved working from home.  Easy in Easy out to every store.

I still have that now to a degree with the late route I run not starting til' 2.  But unfortunately I'm in rush hour traffic as PART of my job now.

oh hey thats right bird- I remember you saying how awesome that was!

I actually loved working second shift too back when I did- 1-9, 2-10, 3-11....everything done in the morning, no hurry or worry, never there too early or too late....

Boy! I couldn't imagine rush hour traffic everyday, even our traffic doesn't seem that bad anymore.

I used to HATE our rush hour traffic.

But then last year I took this part time job as a courier and on my fourth day they had me go to downtown Chicago during rush hour.

I realize now Milwaukee doesn't have traffic jams.

That day in Chicago I LITERALLY went about 1 mile in an HOUR!  I mean, I just sat there, never moving, for 10 minutes at a time.

Ever since that day no matter how bad the traffic seems here I always think how good we have it.  I mean, on the Milwaukee freeways, you're always atleast moving.  You may only be doing 10 or 15 mph, but it beats sitting there like you were in a parking lot!
