You didn't tell me REO was there!!!!

Hey LadyStrange, are they still all intact? Is Kevin Cronin still the lead singer?

Yes he is.  Unfortunately, Gary isn't in the band, and he's the one I miss the most.

From the classic 80's lineup you'd be familiar with, we still have Kevin, Bruce, and Neal.

eh... I saw part of their set a few years back. They come just about every year. They were more interested in talking about their songs than playing them, like its some sort of storytellers thing. And of course talking into the microphone, all you could make out was a muddy...

"HEY MILWAUKEE! BADIPADIPODOTTIE! hummehumhum wha? hhahahahahaha  1,2, 123...."

In fact, that same year, we were down early in the afternoon, and this one stage was packed for a Chicago REO tribute band. 2 nights later the real band was there, and it was only 1/2 full!!

Now that's just sad!

JD,

That reminds me of one of the funnier lines I heard on TV all season. (of course it won't be as funny without the facial expressions of the actors).

On Still Standing the main character Bill is sitting down at a meal with his wife and her sister and boyfriend.

The boyfriend is in a foghat cover band (and he talks with an english accent even though he's American, he thinks it's more "rock n' roll").

Bill says "How's the band doing Perry?"

Perry says "It's tough man, a lot of competition"

Bill says, with a surprised look on his face "really? There's a lot of Foghat cover bands you're competing with?"

Perry says "No man, Foghat"

Obviously the implication being that Foghat has fallen so far that they're fighting for the same dive-bar gigs that Perry's cover band are playing.

And I laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaughed.

Now that I hear REO is getting fewer fans than it's cover band I don't find it so funny!

Yeah, REO came to the St. Joseph County 4-H Fair about 9 years ago (that's in Northern Indiana, if anyone was concerned). I didn't really want to pay the money to get in at the time, but I remember hearing it from the fairgrounds, and you really couldn't hear anything but the typical loudspeaker dribble.

The funny part was the radio station that was advertising it was a pop/rap radio station that had a real young DJ. He announced that "rio" Speedwagon was coming to the fair.

hahaha! I can picture it!

One of my fave bands The CHurch is coming back to milwaukee (again......3rd straight year). Certainly not the same allure or pull to go as the first time. 2nd time was cool....but now its like they are a $25 working bar-band now...like they should have a tip jar up on stage...

hahahaha all these in their 50's and touring the county fairs bands must still really love it, or at least have learned to grin-n-bare it!!!
