It will work until you change the background color again . . . but by then everyone will be tired of my mug and doing this one gave me some ideas for others.
You are a craftsman in every sense of the word dude!
I'm looking this avatar closer now and I'm just so impressed. I mean, your hand is perfectly cut out, did you actually have a peice of wood or something with a circle in it that you used to have a photo taken and then just color in the wood in photo shop?
Its not as hard as it looks . . . just need the graphics tools.
First, I took the "posed" picture with my hand in that position.
Next I made a blue square the size of the finished avatar to match the blue background.
Then, I cut the circle out of the sqare and made the cutout transparent.
Next, I put the border around the cut-out.
Then, I cropped & resized the photo to about where it needed to be and put it behind the square with the circle. That actually put my hand behind the background.
Finally, I opened another copy of the pic of me and "extracted" just my hand. I put my hand back on top of everything. Its just a matter of pieces layers.
