Living Will

Living Will

I think this is the best living will form that I've seen, it's
easy to understand, and it makes perfect sense as well.

I, _____________Ruby____________, being of sound mind and body, do
not wish to be kept alive indefinitely by artificial means.

Under no circumstances should my fate be put in the hands of
pinhead politicians who couldn't pass ninth-grade biology if their
lives depended on it or lawyers interested in simply running up
the bills.

If a reasonable amount of time passes and I fail to ask for at
least one of the following:

   ______a Bloody Mary
   ______a Margarita
   ______a Scotch and Soda
   ______a Beer
   ______a Rum and Coke
   ______Steak and Baked Potato
   ______Fried Chicken
   ______The remote control
   _____   Chocolate
   ______ Sex

it should be presumed that I won't ever get better. When such a
determination is reached, I hereby instruct my appointed person and
attending physicians to pull the plug, reel in the tubes and call it a
day.

My Mom just showed me the living will she had put together this week.

She doesn't want to be on any machines. But the lawyer failed to put that in the will, so it has to be redone.

My Mom has told me in the past that she doesn't want medication to ease her suffering, she wants to suffer as much as possible on her death bed She believes the more suffering she can get out here on earth the less she'll have to do in the afterlife.

I told her I'd get the will rewritten for her and instruct the doctors to put her on all the WRONG machines just to make it worse for her as per her wishes

I want all the drugs, skip the machines and give me drugs. No pain!

Me too Ally! I'm a coward. I want to slip away without realizing it.

I sometimes wonder if Alzheimers (and I apologize to anyone who's dealt with this in their family, I'm not making light of it, this is a legitimate thought I've had) wouldn't be a good thing to have in my final years.

I would just rather not be really aware that the end is near.

I totally agree, its a hard thing when its first happening. When you realize you can't remember thats hard, but then it get to where you just don't know anymore. Everything is new, I think its only hard on the loved ones then. I would much rather have it that way too. Or a nice heart attack in my sleep, that would be ok too.

Yeah gimme drugs too! I can't understand why women want a natureal childbirth. There is nothing natural about being in THAT much pain. When I had the boy I had a c section- so you are numb from the waist down anyway. But with the girl I never felt a real contraction. They told me I was having one and I pushed. I never broke a sweat or one of the hubby's fiingers!

But if you go drug free during the childbirth you can hold a lifetime of guilt over the child

Aaaaaaaaaah. OK. Not as dramatic, but alright.

Of course I was kidding about the "wrong machines" for my Mom. And I suspect if God forbid the day comes she's in a hospital in immense pain she'll change her mind about the drugs.

We just tease her about it because it struck me as funny when she said it.

It was when we were dealing with my Dad during the last week or so, and I had mentioned I hoped I went quick. She just kind of blurted out "Not me, I hope I really suffer". It sounded so weird!

As a Catholic though, I see her point. I see it, but will not live it. God gave us the ability to make pain medicine and the ability to use it!

Plus, she raised you- how much more pain does the woman need?

I went pretty much drug free. Can I hold it over Sparky's head? he was mean to me.

I'd like to go quickly and not know what hit me. Let me live until about 75, then I'd like to die instantly in a car crash or something so I never knew it was coming. For some reason though, I don't think that's the way I'll go. I think I'll be 90, living alone, die at home, and no one will find me until days later when the cats start eating me.

But if I'm ever in a hospital bed, give me all the drugs, but I would prefer to stay off of any machine that works my organs for me.

When I had my first (Browni), the labour pains came on really hard really quickly and Hubby put me on the TENS machine that we rented...After an hour of agony I begged Pain relief...then they had the cheek of telling me I was too far on so I had to just use gas and air and then they flipping well took that off me too...!!!

With No. 2 the pains arrived suddenly too...I quickly agred to some Pethidine as I was not too far gone this time....

...The  pain did not subside...I had to start gas and air too......and all the Pethidine did was vastly accelerate labour, and I remember being worried that the babe would be a bit sedated and at risk... Bloody chldbirth...never again.

I blame Adam and Eve.

When my time to go arrives I don't want to have to be spending lots of time thinking about it and upsetting myself about not seeing Mark or the kids again...so from a purely selfish point of view I hope I die very quickly...On the othe rhand from the maternal point of view...it would be ok to live a little while before death to give the kids time to at least adjust a little to the fact that I am due to die.

And the cynical ex nurse inside me wants to have a naughty spell in hospital being a bit batty and winding up a new generation of nurses and doctors......(but I don't want to really)

14 actually.

According to my father they were so convinced that no child could live up to the level of joy and happiness I delivered they couldn't bring themselves to have another kid.

Apparantly I was a troublesome 13 year old though and they decided they had better try again
