Tats - Love 'Em or Leave 'Em?

Woo and LS were talking about Tommy Lee in another thread and talked about his tats. What is everyones opinions on tattoos? It seems like everywhere I go lately I see people with them all over. I would like to have one very small pink and purple butterfly in a place where only I can see it, but other than that - I don't want one that everyone can see. What do you guys and gals think?

I do not like them at all.

A small one is ok, if it's in an area that's usually covered. But other than that I just don't like em'.

I'm kind of weird that way though. I'm very anti-flashy in general. Don't like the weird hairdo's, Don't like the gold teeth. Won't wear any jewelry at all personally. Suppose I'd wear a wedding ring if I ever got married but that would be it.

awwwwwww, I like them.  I do have a few. Not anyplace too noticable, but if it's something you know you can live with for life, go for it.

Take your time deciding, because it will be with you forever!!

Leav 'em here too.

I see these teen age and young 20's kids getting these tatoos of all this stuff that they think is cool now. I chuckle when I think about 40 years from now when they have all these old looking tatoos on their fat or wrinkled up bodies. I can't help but think eventually there has to be a day when they finally wake up in the morning, look in a mirror, and think "I wish I wouldn't have done that".

Leave 'em- it is in the Bible not to mark your body. So that is my answer and I am sticking to it. Plus I do not really care for them.

But when I was young I LOVED Tommy Lee- tats or not!

Well like I said, a little one is not so bad, expecially on a woman. On guys I think they're just stupid.

Although a lot of the older men in my family had military related tatoos, and I always thought that was cool because it was like a badge of honor to them. They were proud of their service and wanted to show that they had been a part of a military unit.

But I mean, there's people out there with Rock Band names and stuff like that. I just don't get that.

But, that what makes us interesting. We're all different (Webguy more than most).

Footnote: I don't know why I just said that about Web. It just felt like it had been awhile since I took a shot at him. ALL IN FUN OF COURSE!

no tatoos for me... i know i can't pull it off.

some people can, but i think on most women it just looks trashy.  and on some men it looks stupid.

i have a cousin who is pierced and tatooed, but he looks fab!  he is also on the artsy side being a jeweler and a sculptor and a musician....  i am excited to see if he has any new artwork, and "body art"

now, if belly button piercings were the rage when i was in high school, i would have done that because i had it going on back then.  that was then....  36 22 34  now it's basically the same numbers, but not in that order...

I didn't know that.  But I know that the people who seriously follow the Jewish religion feel that way.  Makes sense to me...

Well, put it this way in my fantasy world- where I spend most of my days! -  I love him. He is a hot rock start, though he has gotten a little too freaky to me- too many tats. But knowing in real life he was a physical abuser- I have to say I do not care for him.

Yeah, leave em here too, I think I told the story once about my 85 year old neighbor with the 100 year old looking old lady tatooed on his arm. That did it for me and he said take my advice you will one day wake up when your 80 and wish it wasn't there.

I don't care for the pierced ears either (on me).

Wow , where to start ?  If your Samoan there great . It's part of their culture and all.

  I'm not an Islander .

If your in the military they are justified .

  I'm not in the military.

Most guys  love the constant reminder that another guy has "been there " " inked that " tattoo that  girls get in an " intimate place ".

   I'm single .

If you got one cause that "really cool guy" ( or girl ) on MTV got one they are O.K.

   I don't watch MTV

If you enjoy advertizing the Sci Fi channel for free thats O.K.

   I don't watch much TV. ( I don't wear Coke sweatshirts at $50.00 each either )

   If it's art , then why can't I find a tattoo in a museum ?

    I'm not in France

    tattoos -  don't ask , don't tell .

Eh, I don't care if everyone else has tattoos (unless it's something radical like a facial tattoo), it's their body, not mine. Personally, I probably won't ever get one. I've thought about it, but I'm too indecisive. I do henna and temporary tattoos though sometimes.

Do you happen to know where in the bible that part is? I would really be interested in reading that.

Absolutely! That's why when I read Darlene saying "If it's something you know you can live with for life, go for it. Take your time deciding, because it will be with you forever!!" I thought - that's the point. How many 20 or even 30 year-olds know what they'll want for life? And I bring up Tommy Lee as an example, since he seems to be our hot topic today. Remember when he tattooed Bobbi Brown's name on his neck?

My understanding:

Leviticus 19:28: "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD."
NIV

But from that point, you have to consider that is an Old Testament Law. It is stated that since Jesus came to fulfill the Law, we no longer live under "The Law". If you are going to claim to live by "The Law" then all of it should apply which if I remember correctly involves some 600+ detailed rules that I am yet to know anyone who is capable of living by those rules in today's world.

So, yes the Bible says "Do not tatoo yourself", but the question remains does that law apply to the New Testament Christian living under the Grace of Jesus?

I'm not saying it does or doesn't . . . just something for the Christian to work out in his/her own mind.

I have nothing against tats but they are not for me. My Grandpa has a naked lady on his arm and she is 75 years old too scary.

I guess I understand a small one that gets hidden in most cases....like a little butterfly on a woman might be cute & fun.

There is this young girl at work who looks like she has gang/jail tattoos up one of her arms, and someone's name I think on the back of her neck. THe neck one gets covered by her hair, but I can tell she is at the age where she is going "dang, I would not have done that now...."

I have a friend that lost a baby and she had an angel and the babies name put on her shoulder. I see in a case like that its a memory for her.

aw well sure......there was this article in the paper awhile back about a couple of military dads who lost sons in iraq and how they both thought they were done with tattoos but they both went and got their son's names......sad, but completely understandable in these cases, tattoos with real meaning...

Well, we may never know if Bettie Page became fat, because she will not let herself be shown on TV or in pictures. She's really old now, and I've heard audio interviews with her, but she doesn't want herself to be shown, because she wants to keep that sexy memory in the minds of the public. Interesting. Sort of KISS-ish, in a way.

Thanks, Web. That's very interetsing. I am neither Jew nor Christian, but if others being so means I don't have to look at yucky tattoos, that's fine by me.

I would prefer a photograph or videotape footage for a memory. To me, that's kind of tacky and sad. I've seen others do that - I don't like it. I think it makes others uncomfortable, too. Like advertising your loss everywhere you go. To me, that's weird. You would feel like you'd have to say something about it... Weird & uncomfortable.
