I'm not in WI, but I am stuck in the middle of a fight.

I have a church site hosted that just had a nasty split and the pastor and a bunch of other people left.

Saturday afternoon, I knew nothing of this, but got a call from the pastor: "Hey, my email is not working. I'm getting a password error, can you help me?"

So, I went in and reset his password for him. All was well and good.

Monday morning, I get a call from the "new webmaster" of the church explaining what went on and asking me not deal with this pastor any more on this site as he was no longer pastor of that church. I double checked and he had all the site passwords so I had to take his word that he was for real. I requested that the trustees of this church write me a short letter and sign it just so I have written proof that the church is saying this guy is out.

As this group was leaving, the former webmaster destroyed the site. The new webmaster called and asked if there were any backups or any way to get the site back up. Sure, I have weekly backups for the last month . . . so I restored the site.

This group that left, had a password protected area with a forum in it that only they knew about. Tonight, at 10:30, I got a call from the former pastor saying "Our private forum has been restored. We can't have that as the church does not need access to our private converstaions!"

I'm thinking, if you are all on the up-and-up, why are you worried about what they might find in your forum?

I told him that they asked me to no longer deal with him on that site and that a signed letter stating that was in the mail to me. He seemed to understand, but is not happy . . . and actually seemed quite nervous about it.

The ironic thing is that if the old webmaster would have just deleted that forum and left the site intact (rather than destroying it out of spite), they would not have asked me to restore it and thus found their forum.

Their vengence on the way out got them exposed.

Wow Web! Sounds like an awful lot of drama for a poor guy just trying to run a server!

He started going on into about the details and trying to get me on his side so I would help him. I told him I wasn't going to get in the middle of who was "right" or "wrong" and that I had to do the legal thing. The church owns the site, I have to do what they want.

that would really suck, I can't believe they tried to drag you into it.

I did tell the pastor that I was disappointed in his action of calling me on Saturday asking for help with his email and going on about how he had no idea what was wrong when he knew good and well why his email password had been changed.

He said: Well, that was a personal email address and it was wrong of them to disable it.

I said: You may be right there, but my point is that you really knew why it wasn't working but you played me to get it reset.
