Happy Saturday All!

Good morning, everybody!  It's another lovely day here in Olathe, KS.  At 6:30 AM it was already 78 degrees!  Looking forward to another hot one.

Wow, 100+ temps, close to a fire, wearing full fireman's bunker gear . . . . that CAN'T be easy.

We're expected to reach 100 here too today.

I decided to skip the ham radio testing this morning. I decided to sleep in a while. It felt pretty good.

I truly feel for anyone having to suffer the heat, particularly the fire fighters and soldiers. The heat and the added clothing and protective gear!!  I'm feeling bad for my guys out in the shop and they have nothing like that going for them. Granted, there is also a big ol' swamp cooler out there too.

One of my neighbors immigrated here from Kuwait.  His parents just finished their yearly mnth long visit. I get such a kick out of talking with them.  Emile (Neighbor Guz's dad) was fussing about the Midwestern American summer heat!  He says, "Oh sure... it is 115 degrees in the shade back home, but it is a DRY heat.  MUCH DIFFERENT!"

Good morning all!

I wanted to see what it's like to be Ally today so I slept in 'til 10:30. I must say, it's not a bad gig if you can get it!

Extreme Heat today and tomorrow so my plan is to do NOTHING this weekend but putz around the house.

With the exception of running my grandmother & mother to church and then back to their respective homes I will not be setting foot outdoors this weekend. IT'S GONNA BE GREEEATT!!!

Well went to the party, the doctor's and back to the party and now we are home. When E wakes up, I need to take her back to the store and buy her the lovey I refused to buy this morning, but then promised her if she could just give the doctor a few more minutes- it would be over. This has been a busy weekend already, but the last couple have been quiet.

its this valley filled with trees, almost like walking along a cliff-side. theres walking trails through it, and I have seen deer and hawks and about a billion chipmunks there. the trails are maybe only 3/4 of a mile, but its a nice walk.

here is info on the one by my house- literally across the street...

Hawthorn Glen is situated on twenty-five acres. Natural features include steep bluffs, flood-plain hardwood forest, spring-fed wetland, and a restored prairie. Visitors to this urban nature center can explore five different habitats interconnected by a trail system. A three-quarter mile portion of this trail serves as a self-guided nature hike. The Outdoor Education Office will have copies of a new and improved trail guide available by September 2002. More than half of the lower trail is paved for handi-capped accessibility. A new system of trail markers is under development and should be installed during the summer of 2002.

Trails are designated for hiking only. Hikers are reminded to leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but memories, and watch for wildlife. Hawthorn Glen is home to deer, foxes, raccoons, opossum, rabbits, chipmunks, woodchucks, two species of hawks, many migratory birds, and songbirds of all kinds year-round.

What the hell?!? Where is this place? I've been to your place a couple times and never noticed it. You've got the houses behind you, houses across the street, that radio station at the end of the block with a big open field by it. Where in the world is this huge nature preserve?

You gotta have your friends over more you anti-social bastage!!!!

well its really big with kids during the day- a lot of schools do field trips there...and their is a soccer field there that has games. But today, I was the only person on the trails, as far as I could see.... its really just a cool forest like oasis in the center of town. anybody that I've ever passed on the trail and greeted seems to be cool, like they "get" the beauty and what a gem the thing is....

yes, I like that its a trip back through time too. The river by my house used to be a lot bigger, and one of the trails leads to a path (now inaccessably) that used to lead to that river....a lot of native americans lived in this glen, and used that trail to get to the river until 1850.

I love the idea of something like that not being paved over or dug out to make a road...
