And he is yummy!

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Batman is heading into a sequel, titled "The Dark Knight," and he will face off against the Joker, this time played by Heath Ledger.

Christian Bale, the star of last year's "Batman Begins," will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Christopher Nolan is returning to the directing chair.

Ledger, Oscar-nominated this year for his role in "Brokeback Mountain," resurrects a murderous role memorably played in 1989 by Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton's "Batman."

"Batman Begins" was a critical and commercial hit, and relaunched the Warner Bros. franchise.

An early 2007 start date is being eyed for the sequel. Before then, Bale and Nolan will be in theaters this fall with the Disney release "The Prestige

Heath is a good actor... but he's TOO FREAKING YOUNG!!!  He's 27,  Jack was like 52 when he played The Joker.   Heath is about 20 years too young to be considered for the part IMO.

I agree w/ Ruby he is yummy.  And even though you guys will never forget that he was in 'Brokeback Mountain' and that movie will be attached to him for his whole acting career, I think he is easy on the eyes, regardless of the part he is playing.

He can leave his boots under my bed any day... (or night)

I don't get the whole hoopla from Brokeback.   Heath wasn't the first actor to play a gay character (Christian Bale, the current Batman, did one as well) and he likely won't be the last either.  It's just a character IMO

They jump around in the Batman plots so frequently - I won't be surprised if this is a prequel to the Jack Nicholson Joker...

Sounds good to me, he can definitely act! Just hope he can come off as psychotic as Jack...

ps - that's me from this time last year recycling an old Joker costume for the Horrorfind convention - geek that I am.

Thanks Jeremy - my grandmother helped me make it way back when the movie first came out and I took my little cousins trick or treating. Of course every other little boy in the neighborhood was Batman that year... I remember one little Batman hiding behind his dad saying "No! No! It's really HIM, Dad, it's not a costume!" Heh heh...

Ha! Yep - My favorite line: "I git a grin... again" Unfortunately, I love to dress up, love to do the halloween thing, it's the acting I stink at. Fortunately that worked out when I went to a midnight Harry Potter thing at Borders dressed as a 7 foot tall Dementor. THAT was priceless...

That's fun!

People don't dress up enough anymore! Everyone gets older and lets the child inside die

SO TRUE!! I love the midnight showings at our local theater now just because so many people dress up for them - the PotC: Dead Man's Chest had SO many people dressed in pirate costumes - it was great!

I'm looking forward to Horrorfind in a few weeks - these people are as close to professional as I'll ever see... check out the ones from last year - the green monster guy was amazing - the mouth worked and everything!!

And the 8 year old dressed as Hellraiser - wow, dunno if I'd go that far with my tyke...

Good grief that kid is scary!

With all those pegs on his head he better not trip or they might become permanent!

Actually, that's tin foil and LOTS of spirit gum - the little girl was SO patient while her mom reapplied them in the bathroom before the costume parade. And she definitely won first place in the kid's division!

I love to dress up for stuff too! We've already been thinking about what we want to be for Halloween. Well actually, we start thinking about that on Nov. 1st! But as usual, we haven't decided.

I am looking forward to this movie!

Michael Caine has been talking to Australian papers about Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker, and it's sounding real good. As quoted on Batman-on-Film, the actor journalists that the production's biggest worry when making the sequel was the handling of Batman's arch-nemesis The Joker, and the inevitable comparison that will be made to Jack Nicholson's famous turn.

"Jack Nicholson was the greatest Joker so, you know, how do you top that? Well, Heath Ledger's done it and he's extraordinary," Caine boasted. "He's gone in a completely different direction to Jack. Jack was like a clown figure, benign but wicked, maybe a killer old uncle. He could be funny and make you laugh. Heath is like a really scary psychopath. I did one scene with him and he was ready to go and had to come up in a lift and raid our place. I didn't see him for rehearsal and when he came out of the lift he was so incredible I forgot my lines."

If making a smooth and professional veteran like Caine forgetting his lines is not an accomplishment, then what the hell is?

"He frightened the life out of me," Caine added. "His Joker is going to be a hell of a revelation in this picture."

Heath Ledger...yummy. laughing.gif Seriously, I think he's an appropriate Joker for that period of the Batman saga. I'm curious to see how he pulls it off. And there was a better Joker than Nicholson...in the Batman TV series! wink

He was brilliant! I kept laughing at his evilness. Glad we did the IMAX!
I'm so sad that he is gone.
