I am grillin out presently. Waited a bit longer, so as for the sun to start goin down....but it is still a scorcher. But I noticed. NO BUGS. They must have baked today. Not one dang mosquito, I didn't even see an ant. All them creepy crawly things? gone. If you can take the heat, go outside.

lol good point! It would have been just easier to let the food roast outside on the picnic table and cool the beer off on the grill!

It looks like sweet relief will be in the form of a thunderstorm! some big clouds blowin in presently, rolling thunder in the background....


I love heat lightning. A fond memory I have is in 1994 sitting on the porch of a house that I had rented with some roommates. It was so hot out, and we did not have an air conditioner. So we just spent the evening out on the porch drinkin beer and watching this awesome heat lighting above the clouds. It was like the best fireworks show you'd ever see, x 100, and without the noise. No breaks, just constant constant heat lightning. A total symphony or dance in the sky. It was almost light out all night from all the sky activity. To this day, I wish I had a camera that night.


Maybe tonight will be a heat lightning night.

I have only seen it twice and both times it was far and few between. Its awsome! both times I saw it it was clear outside no storms anyplace. It was scary.

Yeah, it's kind of rare around here, but JD's right, when it's going good it's quite a show and you feel completely safe because it's not cloud to ground.

wow...where have i been my whole life that i missed these things? i did go swimming tonight and the h2O was sooooo warm & comfy. i like night swims in this kinda heat.

cheese if I ever spot it again, I will be sure to let you know, good chances are the clouds and the heat lightening would be heading south towards chicago, pushing out of the north, and it would be there 90 mins after it was leaving here......

i didn't know where else to comment, BUT....


I AM FREEZING!  i sit under an air vent and it's blowing down my neck.  my right hand is numb from the cold and my feet are ice!


yet, if we turn up the thermostat, we will pay this afternoon...

It's the same way here. I always put on my jacket in the morning, but it's usually comfortable here in the afternoon (which means everyone other than me is hot).

We too have heat lightning- almost nightly in the summer. E and I enjoyed the show on the way home. No rain tho- and it is just plain HOT when the heat lightning does not produce rain.
