WEBGUY! I FIXED IT!

I know you're not gonna be around much today, but hopefully you'll see this!

I finally fixed the situation where the computer wouldn't see the backup CD's as files, but rather saw the whole disc as one long single CD track.

It was something sooooooooooooooo simple.

While loading in some of the new music that Woo, Lady Strange and others had sent in I noticed the little file icons were the Windows Media Player Icon, so I went to WMA and unselected it as a default player for music files, then I went to MusicMatch and selected IT as the default player.

Viola! The system went back to seeing them as MP3 files!

This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO nice, it's gonna make adding music to the system much easier for me. YAY!!! GOOD START TO SATURDAY!!!

Yay JR!

I suspected it was something about file associations but had no idea what. Very cool and good find!

Thanks!

I'm glad I found it before I went through the hassle of moving my external DVD drive from the studio computers to this one.

Because now I realize I would have got it all hooked up and it woudn't have made a difference. I would have been one unhappy camper!

DAMMIT WEB!

It worked ALL day now all of a sudden it's back to not recognizing the files.

I've NEVER had this problem with ANY computer I've owned and I've had about 15 of them in the past 10 years!

What the hell!

I'm just going to do a system restore and move back up to your first post here where you were happy.

lol. COOL!

Wouldn't it be nice if that worked for LIFE!

Yesterday was a great day, today sucked, I'll just restore my computer to yesterday and live it again!

Hey JR, have you tried going to Folder Options in Control Panel and the File Types tab? There you can change what program opens up what type of file. Maybe that'll help.

Mz,

I think the quickest solution is to carry my computer to the road, throw it on the pavement, and drive over it a few dozen times with my van

No, it won't FIX the problem, but it WILL make me feel better

I'd discourage against that, it might put a hole in a tire.

Personally, I prefer the ol' baseball bat method. Helps release some of that agression, and you get a workout!

On the old "Screen Savers" computer show, the preferred repair tool was a sledge hammer.

Well, I installed the external DVD Writer I have and that drive opens everything as files, so whatever the problem was it seems to have been isolated to THAT drive on the new computer.

I'll just have to use the external drive for entering music.

Thanks for all your ideas guys!
