Cheeslvr

I grew up in Downers Grove and went to high school in Lombard- I moved to SC in 1987 when I graduated high school. Is that near you or sound familiar at all?

oh yeah- i have lots of friends from DuPage County- I often go to Oak Brook Terrace.....yeah I'm from the Oak Lawn area (SW burbs)- not too far from Midway Airport (about 15-20 minutes). I grew up in Burbank (IL not CA as most people know it). How do you like SC? THe closest I came to SC was the OUter Banks. I hope to visit Myrtle Beach someday. Do you miss the Chicago land area?

Mr. Riggs, that's not very nice. I've said nothing but good things about you cheeseheads. Have you ever been to Brookfield, WI? I know someone from there. Why do you dislike IL? Just because everyone else up there does? Or do u have a real reason?

My mom worked in Oakbrook and of course I shopped there! I had a boyfriend mysophmore year in high school that lived in Oak Lawn- I never went there though, he always came my way. It was not too far though.

I like SC and Myrtle Beach is fun, but Charleston has similar things to offer without the massive crowds. It is a toss up about what you want to do. I used to go every year, but now more like every other.

I do miss Chicago, but probably more I miss my childhood and the memories. As much as I miss the snow, I would probably hate it in a few weeks! Most of my friends are scattered all over IL. My 20th high school reunion is next year and I plan on going. I have not been there since my 10th. I never planned on staying gone that long, but life got in the way!

I guess I don't dislike everyone from Illinois, but you've got the absolute RUDEST drivers I've ever encountered. I swear to God. When I'm in traffic and I see someone acting like an idiot, it's almost ALWAYS an Illinois plate. When the Cubs are in town I'm afraid to be on the road. It's like they think they're in the Indy 500 when they're on the freeway up here. Don't get me wrong, we all have bad drivers, but I would have to bet that 3 out of 5 drivers from IL are horrible compared to 1 out of 5 from WI.

Of course I've been to Brookfield! I do most of my shopping there, it's only about 4 miles from where I live. Very nice city, although they've overdone it a bit with Bluemound Avenue and the retail outlets there. It's a crazy area to try and get around now. But the houses are all beautiful and the neighborhoods are great.

Awwwwwww. Now that I think about it, I'm saying I don't like Illinois, Ruby is saying she doesn't like Spandau Ballet.

It must seem like pick on Cheese day I'm sorry Cheese!

I LOVE Chicago itself! I don't get there very much, but I like the idea of a big hustling and bustling city like that. Our downtown is pathetic! I think the best movies always take place in Chicago (like the Blues Brothers) or New York!

Besides, I dont' know many people from Illinois. You and Ruby are definately making me reconsider my thinking

I agree about the Chicago drivers, but growing up people drove normally. But downtown and the highways- forget it! But I have been to NY and Atlanta and it is the same- they speed, do not use their turn signals and are NOT courteous. That is one thing about here- people drive like crap, but can be courteous and slower- sometimes too slow!

Cheeselvr- the only song I do not like is True- I never really did in the 80s and now I have to hear it almost daily, it just irritates me. I did not mean to pick on you

it seems that most people mix up Oak Lawn and Oak Park....you might be thinkin' of Oak Park since there is an L train that runs through it. Oak Lawn really is far from any L train. THe brown line runs NW from the Loop while Oak Park is directly west of the city and I beleive it is the green line that takes ya to Oak Park.

Did you know Oak Park was officially voted the sexiest suburb in the world? Don't ask me why. I'm serious though.

I think that's probably it Ruby, people grow up with that insane traffic and eventually just become horrible drivers almost because they have to.

I've been in Chicago at rush hour a couple times in the past two years and my goodness, I have to say Milwaukee HAS NO TRAFFIC. I used to get so annoyed in our traffic jams, but after going to Chicago I realize we have no traffic jams! Traffic may be moving slow, but it's MOVING! In Chicago I was literally standing still more than I was moving for almost an hour!

I would not want to live downtown. last time I went I stayed with a friend that lived down there. It took some getting used to. She seemed to have adjusted, but she did end up back in the suburbs!

the first couple of times I stayed downtown it was hard to sleep. I mean the room was silent, but just knowing that all this activity, that the streets were busy and bustling all night long, made it hard to relax. I got used to it tho once I got more familiar with the city, but yea I couldn't live down there.

Ruby,
Do you plan on coming back to IL anytime again? There are so many political scandals here, it's insane. How far are you from Savannah, GA? Ever been there? I plan on going sometime in the next few years if I can.

I am coming up there next year, not sure what month. I am going to meet JD and JR if it kills me. I have two friends I still talk to regularly- one in Lincoln Park and one in Downers Grove.

We are real close to Savannah- I have been there once or twice when I was younger- do not really remember though- I did the bar tour! We went to Atlanta this year for our vacation- maybe one day I will take my kids.
