Wear a helmet!

We had a pretty bad motorcycle accident a few blocks from my house.

A guy and a gal on a motorcycle wearing no helmet got hit by a drunk driver in a car. They both died.

It's not about how good of a driver you are, it's about how bad the OTHER drivers can be!

WEAR A FRICKIN' HELMET! You're families wouldn't be devastated today if you just wore a damn helmet

what a shame. reminds me of a guy who i went to h.s. with.  he died in a motorcycle crash when a woman just pulled in front of him. he was only 19 or 20 and engaged. a friend of mine was a medic @ the scene and said he was unrecognizable. what a horrible but fast way to go. imagine what's going thru your head that last split second.

I know some people that ride bikes and they are so INSISTENT on not wearing a helmet. But it's just a "cool" thing with them, they don't think it looks good to be wearing a helmet. I just wish they'd think about the people they're gonna be leaving behind.

It reallly ticks me off when someone has young kids and still takes that "who cares, it's my life and I can do what I want" attitude.

I have known a few people that have crashed and not been wearing a helmet. Its not pretty. My dad witnessed an accident a few years ago, a young couple hit the back of a school bus doing about 55 or 60. It still haunts him to this day, they were both killed instantly. Helmets were broken in pieces.

is that what erica was talking about when she called? that's just terrible. you get on a bike, you are assuming that others are going to play by the rules. they don't. people are idiots. stupid stupid idiots. bikes aren't safe. due stupid stupid people in cars.

I hate bikes. I have no use for them, they are a death trap on two wheels. I have seen it to many times to count, I have lived through 28 Rallies and I've seen more accidents than anyone should have to in a lifetime.

I just hate how loud they are, expecially the Harleys. If you were driving a car that loud you'd get pulled over and told to buy a muffler.

those Harleys rip by the house and the windows actually shake. Then again, maybe it's just a cheap house.

oh that is just enough to sicken. You expect stuff like that to happen at bar-time on a friday or saturday night. that will always happen then, infrequently, but everyone driving then is drunk. to have something this terrible happen on a sunday afternoon?!?!? what the hell!?!? As much as it was a drunk that murdered them, it was a stupid waste of life that murdered them.

Oh and I so agree on the helmets. it is only boneheads in love with their hair that don't want to wear helmets. they are stupid enough to believe that the world is safe for them to ride motorcyles in, and look soooo cool in.

It IS their choice to not wear a helmet. So I guess I don't have a problem with that.

The only thing is that there is NO GOOD reason not to. The only reasons not to wear a helmet are superficial or "It's not comfortable". How comfortable will you be with your head splattered across the highway?

And again, give SOME consideration to all the people in your life that you're lucky enough to have care about you!

they really don't care, SD doesn't have a helmet law and I see people seriously stop at the state line and take them off. It kills me to see the people that get killed from a head injury and they have a helmet strapped to the back of the bike and not on their head. Idiots I tell you IDIOTS!

Are helmets not legal over there then? They are a legal requirement here (for 2 wheel bikes) though of course you do get the youths riding off road without them and on those horrible, lethal mini motorbikes

Some states make them mandatory, not here in South Carolina though.

They're mandatory here in Maryland too... but not right over the PA line...

On my ex's side his 27 year old cousin died in a motorcycle accident on the way home from work. So sad... he was married with a son on the way. And that was with a helmet - which is why I won't be getting my motorcycle license anytime soon, or ever!

Ocean City down here has a big motorcycle weekend in September, our outdoor club inadvertently planned our weekend there on that weekend - we'll never do that again. 24 - 7 motorcycles up and down the strip. It was like a neverending thunderstorm. The only time you couldn't hear it was when you were on the beach, and the dunes cut out the sound. But we heard it crystal clear everywhere else - the hotel room, restaurants, driving around - I can't imagine OC likes them there - they probably get hundreds of disgruntled tourists wanting their money back for not being told ahead of time what they'd be putting up with on their vacation.

That's another excuse I've heard for not wearing them "people still die wearing helmets". It's an odd way to look at things. People still die driving very strong SUV's too, it's just about lowering the odds.

When your on a bike you have NO protection, AT LEAST try to protect your brain for goodness sake!

Ok, so I am odd woman out- so what is new. I LOVE riding a bike. I would never drive one, but for years I had a biker friend who took me everywhere. He weighed close to 300 lbs, so I felt safe on the back and he blocked the wind! But it was so relaxing the wind through my hair and the drowning out of the world. He was always very safe with me, never sped and usually just took back roads around. One of the best feelings of peace I have ever experienced. Bikes can be a good thing if you respect them and keep away from other vehicles.
