Puddles and Kelly

Little E won two goldfish at the carnival Saturday and I have managed to keep them alive since then. Using spring water and bought some food. But I have given her "he only way to get to fish heaven is through the toilet"story, thinking they would be dead by now.

Does anyone have goldfish? From what I have seen online, they really need a tank and not a bowl. I am not inclined to spend money on that. We used to have a beta fish at the office in a bowl that lasted forever that I might look into getting if she keeps up loving them.

Everything she has in names Kelly too!

I don't have goldfish. The girl does but she has the full tank setup. I guess I am no help on this.

my friend amie had a goldfish that lasted in a bowl 8 yrs! recently died. she said she cried!

when we were kids we had goldfish we kept in a huge glass bowl. just changed the water once a week, maybe replaced the rocks every 2 months....just make sure that the water temperature is the same as that they are  in when in the bowl= goin from room temperature to cold to warm might kill them.

We recently got a few more African Cichlid fish. One kinda named herself. We had to baby her to eat and such that she got named "Baby" The other one that looks like a riff raff now because he got his butt kicked we just named "McFly"   How 80's are these names?!

I liked amie's goldfish- I would feed it when she'd go on vacation. It was a pretty big one and it did have kind of a personality. it was always really happy to get fed. it'd come up and "kiss" your finger too- like it was a little game to play. "Frisky" was its name.

Emily is obsessed with Kelly. Every breed of stuffed animals has at least one Kelly in the bunch. That is a close friends of mine's name, but E never sees her so I am not sure why she is stuck on it.

I do like the names Woo- I like the 80s too!

Those are great names Woo!

In January, at the office, I had Petrie Bubbles Esquire III, Sunrise, and Sunshine.

Then Petrie decided to call it quits a few months later.

And I lost Sunshine (or was it Sunrise?) last week.

The last remaining fish seems happy and healthy for now. One coworker wants me to get one of those tiny frogs, but I'm thinking of getting one of those algae eaters. But it's only a 2.5 gallon tank.

When I first got my fish, I picked out the tank first then asked the guy at the pet store what fish I could put in it. He suggested beta, goldfish, or guppies. But you can only have one beta, or they'll fight. He said goldfish are really dirty, even with the regular tank, so I would think with a bowl you'd at least have to change the water often. I got my tank kit from PetSmart for $20, so if you decide to go with a tank, you might check those out. I think you'd still have to buy gravel though.

Thanks for the good info. I am trying to stay pet free, but I can handle a low maintenance fish!

Here's a $10 version of one kit.

Guppies. And they're at work, and the cats are at home, so no, they don't bother them. We have had fish at home before (ciclids [sorry Woo, I didn't care for them, and probably won't ever get ciclids again]), but the cats didn't really bother them. They watched them sometimes, and everyone once in a while batted at the glass, but they never really tried to get in at them.

Then sunrise and sunshine are appropriate! One of E's goldfish is orange and the other is brown!
