How'd you get your current job?

Okay I have not asked a nosy question in a while...

I actually got my job because my previous boss got a call from my current boss about something school related and then asked her if she knew anyone who needed a job that matched the qualifications. As much as she loved me, she knew that I would be better off here- she used to have this position. Also she knew the atmosphere at the other school was yucky and things were good here! She was right and I feel blessed to work here and know I would have been miserable had I stayed there!

How about you?

my friend lisa, who now cleans my apartment, was a CSR where I now work. She knew how miserable I was at the last place and put in a good word for me here.

i was working part-time in a retail home improvement store and still living at home when my sister called and told me that the place she worked at was hiring. She told me that I could move out there and live with her. I had been wanting to move out so this sounded good. I was a little worried about the job because I didn't know if I had the patience to work with the mentally/physically handicapped, but i did the interview and was hired on the spot. I have now been here 11 years and I have been a direct care staff, contract coordinator, crew leader, manager and whatever the heck I am now! LOL! They still haven't given me an official title!

Wow that is an interesting question.   My answer:
PURE LUCK!

I had a friend who's company was hiring for seasonal office positions and they were looking for temps, but I had to go to a temp agency to be sent there.  I went to the temp agency and they gave me a standard office test, (typing, writing, computer programs) and I filled out a questionairre.  I was hoping they'd call me and send me to my friend's company.   Well, they called me the next day and asked if I'd be interested in working a temp office job at the police department? I  of course said yes, and I came here, met w/ the Chief at that time.   I had like a mini interview, and they asked me to start the next day.

I got the code to the building and worked as a temp for about 2 years.  (the woman who had this job before me was sueing for "sexual harrassment". So they couldn't hire anyone permenently until she settled.  So I did this till she did settle, and when her position came up they hired me.  I had already been doing it for 2 years, and I think I had proved I knew what I was doing by this time.  I have worked here 10 years, but the first 2 I was just a temp.  With getting the job permenantly I got a pay raise, and all the wonderful city benefits that come with it.  And I'm in a union....

If I didn't have a friend tell me to go to the temp agency I would have never gotten this job.  Great timing.  Probably the first time in my life that I was lucky.

after living in oklahoma a couple years, i decided to take an office tech class at vo-tech.  when it was time to "job out", this place called needing a recept and nobody wanted to comute the short 30 - 45 miles.  i had only planned to stay a couple years because i wanted to go back to school, but everytime i brought it up, THE MAN gave me a raise.  what can i say, money talks...  i've been here 15 years this past may.  now i'm a fixture around here.  actually, i also know i can't go anywhere and make the same money anywhere else (including family coverage medical insurance, profit sharing and time off when something odd comes along).   yeah, i guess it's all about the money...    oh yeah, and i'm the favorite

I applied for it.

I'm the only person here who had no connection whatsoever to get me the job. My last job ended pretty nastily, so I didn't have another job lined up. After a month and no interviews, I started getting nervous. I thought the job at COTA sounded great when I sent my resume in, but there were other jobs that I thought I'd be awesome for that I never heard from, so I wasn't holding my breath. I also signed up to be a Pampered Chef consultant. Yes, I was panicking.

Then I got a job offer for a spa, the job and pay sucked, but I took it anyway and kept sending resumes out. I also started taking a tax class so I could do taxes as a second job in case that was what I was stuck with. Then all the calls started coming in. I scheduled the interview for COTA in between tax class and the spa. The interview felt so good, like it took no effort at all. Everything just felt right. Then I wanted this job so bad. Apparently I was the only person who applied that had customer service, marketing, and a website background and the interview was right on.

I was just coming out of self-employment. My business had pretty much closed a year previous and I knew it wasn't looking good financially. I hated to do it, but I knew I'd better get a job. I had other things going still, so even a decent paying part-time job would be fine.

I was REALLY hesitant to get back to a situation where I'd have to deal with a boss hanging over my shoulder, so I specifically looked for driving jobs, even though I'd never done that before other than motor routes for paper delivery when I was younger.

ANYWAY, I found an ad online for a local auto-parts company that claimed they paid $16 an hour, I filled out and application and was called for an interview.

I went in and during the interview the guy mentionied the job paid $9.00 an hour, I told him what the web said and he says "Oh no, that's a mistake, we gotta fix that". I stopped the interview and said I wasn't going to waste his time since I knew I wouldn't be taking the job.

When I drove down the street from that interview to head home I saw CS Logistics and remembered they had an ad in the paper, so I stopped in and filled out an App while I was there. They hired me a week later.

Now I can't wait to get out!

I had my resume posted on the internet and my boss recognized my name from our working with the same company five years earlier.  I had actually worked for a former partner of his in the past.  He called me up, promised me that he would be a better employer than his former partner, and said he thought we would make a good team.  It'll be two years in a couple of weeks.
