Fireplaces

I feel so blessed to have a fireplace. We used it for the first time this weekend and again last night. Do you have one?

I have a fake one, but this year my christmas present to me is going to be one of these fireplace heaters- electric, no vent, no mess, just the glow of the flames. it'll fit perfectly too in my fireplace....

We have one but I think we are going to take it out when we remodel the living room. Ours is just a cheap metal firebox surrounded by wood walls. Part of the surround has the fake "Z-Brick" stuff on it with the part above just paneling. Even the Z-Brick is only on the front and the side that shows toward the front door. The other side is just paneling.

It looks cheap, we don't use it, the space would be better used if it was gone.

I think I'll like it ruby...there are some cheaper ones, where the flame looks cheap, but the ones that cost a bit more seem to be all right.

If I have some money left over, I'll buy a new wine rack and sit in my chair by the fire drinkin wine. it'll be nice!

we don't have a fireplace, but my hubby is insistant on building a masonry heater (a glorified fireplace) because he has always wanted one.  i would much rather have a nice propane (or electric) no mess no fuss model like the one jd is considering.

here you go, jd.  a nice place to sit back and read on crisp winter days...

that would be my qualifier for breaking down and buying a house! I want a fireplace and a big front porch. the house itself I don't care!!

I don't have one in my house either, and I love them.  I could really use one today.  but I do have one of those outside portable ones.  They are nice on chilly Autumn nights..

For some reason I'm thinking of that goofy Mayor character played by John Candy on SCTV.  He'd always do public announcements from a recliner in front of his fire place while petting his stuffed dog and smoking his pipe.

Does building a camp fire in the living room and taking the battery out of the smoke alarm count? If not, then I don't have a fireplace. I sure wish I did though.

We have a red brick fireplace.  My favorite thing about it is the gas logs.  Just turn the knob and voila, a fire.  No wood, no ashes, no smell.  Unfortunately, not that romantic pop and le either.  Not that that matters anyway now...

I like having a place to hang our Christmas stockings too.  Other than the tree, about the only other decorations I put up this time of year are around the fireplace.

PS:  JD, I have a front AND a back porch too.  Maybe the McKenzie Brothers need to make a trek to visit Music City USA to visit. If I make the haul to Chicago this September, it would only be fair to return the favor...

PPS:  You'd be shocked.  I guarantee you'd have a blast here.  We've much more than people envision.  It's not ALL Hee Haw and Rednecks down here.
