I'm good...gonna be a wet weekend here in Florida, although it cleared up for just enough time last nite to allow the Space Shuttle to land here....I still can't get over the twin sonic booms when it goes over head on its way back to the space center to land!
Good morning! It's foggy and cold in KC this morning. I'm watching the "Got Junk" guy out in the parking lot futzing around with his big truck. (We let him park his junk-mobile in our lot over night.) I'm betting he will be a popular guy next week!

SG...that would sound wild!! Would scare the crap out of me! I forgot the base is in Florida! For me coming from Weipa and complete quiet it would give me a heart attack!
Ahhh wet weekends! I love them! Too hot here...even though I am freezing cold at the moment...only 16 degrees at 11.25pm! I'm used to overnight temps of 29 degrees celcius!
I guess it's supposed to be in the low 40's here today. Any winter day here in the mid-west that it is NOT below freezing is happy with me. I'll take cloudy and foggy over ice and snow any day! This week has been really damp, but not very cold so I'm not complaining at all.

That's good...I hate the cold! I don't get the cold where I come from...so in Brisbane here it is about 10-15 degrees cooler than Weipa all the time. I'm shivering right now. Heading back to extreme hot temperatures next week so I suppose I should make the most of it! Ahhh..a long...too hot Summer ahead of me!
Morning SG, Mad Mema, Jules: It's sort of overcast here in TN too.
Hey Mad Mema. I forget you live in KC. I lived in KC one summer between my freshman and sophomore year of college. I stayed with my Brother and his wife. They lived near Independence but I can't remember the name of the town to save my life. I worked that summer at Worlds of Fun. It was one of the best summers of my life! I think KC is a great city. I think that was the summer that the Royals and the Cards played in the World Series. My brother's has also lived in Nashville, Oklahoma City, Minneapolis, Dallas, and Seattle. And I think they put KC at the top of their list too.

WOW! That's pretty cool! That would have been 1985... the only time the Royals won the World Series. KC is a good place. That is why I haven't left yet. Most of my family is here, except my sister who lives in the Detroit area. Did you maybe live in Blue Springs? It's right next door to Independence. I have not been to Worlds of Fun since my boys were teenagers. That is something I'm looking forward to in the next few years when the grandkids get big enough to enjoy it.

It WAS Blue Springs!! Thanks, that was driving me NUTS trying to think of it and it's too early to call them or the parents for the answer. I used to love the Independence Mall too. I remember going downtown for some great BBQ and looking at the big mansions on the drive and wondering if they were a Chiefs player or possibly a Royal. And I must have just had wanna-be memories of the I-70 Series (Do I have my Interestate # right?) because it was the summer of 1987. I did get to go to a Royals ballgame. Am I right that Bo _______ played during that time or am I just making up more stuff as I go along...
I-70 is definitely correct. Bo's last name is Jackson. Those big mansions don't belong to the players. They belong to the old money here in KC for the most part. That one that sits way back up the hill off of Ward Parkway, not far from the Plaza... looks kind of like you would expect it to be a government building or something like that... belongs to the Russell Stover family. Yep... the people who are responsible for those wonderful chocolate candies. I don't know for sure who else owns what, but the Halls (Hallmark) own one of them. Other familys like that with really recognizable names.
Independence is a nice place. Famous for being the home town of President Harry S. Truman. Independence Center is still a really nice mall.
I actually live on the Kansas side in Olathe, but it's all considered "KC metro area".

Seems like World's of Fun was owned by the Hunt family (as in Ketchup). Do they still live in KC?
The old money owns all the big homes in Belle Meade (Nashville's Bell Aire) too. The country stars all live in Franklin or have big farms outside of town. I've always said I was going to do one of the Gray Line bus tours that show the celebrity homes one day so I can then show family and friends when they visit. (Speaking of which, that would be ANY forum member that wants to make Nashville one of their stops on their tour of the country).
I think some of the Hunt family lives here. I've seen pictures of them from time to time in the society section of the KC Star. The Kauffman family owns one of the mansions too, I believe. Ewing Kauffman of course was the owner of the Royals, he and his wife were the owners of Marion Merrill Dow parmacuticals also. The old money runs deep in this town... kind of amazing if you think about it given that you never really think of KC as a big money area.
