It's cold and wet....and today the thoughts of our town are with the families friends and colleagues of 5 gas rig workers and 2 helicopter crew that were lost at sea last night.
A helicopter took off from Blackpool airport (about half a mile or less from where I live) at about 6 last night to collect some workers from 3 rigs and bring them home for New Year (they were not home for Christmas). It collected from the first 2 rigs and on approach to the third suddenly veered to the left and ditched into the sea. 6 bodies have been recovered and the 7th is still being searched for...but the Irish sea is so cold and although he will have been in a wet suit and lifejacket, the chances of survival are slim...
My partner's boss's husband is on the rigs and we are glad to report he was not on board but was one of several on that 3rd rig who were waiting to be collected... They saw the helicopter go down. He is not a happy flier at the best of times...
My admiration today goes to the Searchers...The RAF and especially our Lifeboat Volunteers who were out all night searching...
Wow, Pip, sorry to hear that. That is terrible news.
Ally, watch out . . . Sparky has the cheese again.
We are on alert for another storm. Last night, they were putting us on the edge again in the ice/mix range. I think I will lug the snow blower home tonight just in case we get enough to move.
Looks like I will spend the next two days catching up on billing again. Yippie Skippie . . . here we go.
