Cars !!

What was your first car? Your favorite car? The car you drive now? Do you have a pet/project restoration project or an old classic car?

I really like my Mazda 3, but my fave car was a beat up ol' 84 Firebird with t-tops. That engine was pristine!! never had a car respond that quickly to "punching it!!!"

I am blessed that when I met my BF he had just finished his "restoration" project.  And I am a proud driver and summertime passenger of this wonder 1965 Mustang Convertible, which looks exactly like this one:

That was the closest I came to a cool car, the Purple bird.  I always got comments on the color, exspecially the first year or two and EXSPECIALLY at the gas stations at night cuz it looked really cool under the flourescent lighting.

Now I drive a soccer-mom mini-van

My first vehicle was a '75 1/2 ton Chevy pickup that I paid $1,800 for with my own money when I was a Sr. in High School.

Although the first pickup will always have special memories for me, my favorite was a '79 El Camino Super Sport. It was a little lighter blue than this one, but looked like:

It was a fun car/truck to drive. It was "souped up" a bit with a big carb and intake, high lift, cam, etc. It had 10" wide tires on the back with a posi-track rear end. One of the fun things was that if you'd get on it a bit, it would bark the tires in the shift from 1st to 2nd.

Ah, memories.

My first vehicle was a 2fer. I had a 1984 and 1985 Buick Skyhawk. One was for parts. One car was blue while the other was red. As you can imagine it was not a pretty site. And did not look as good as this one here:

I don't think I wanna race ya Sparkster.  My Squeeze Limo was built for comfort not speed.

That Horizon didn't have a lot of pick-up.  It wasn't uncommon for me to get passed by kids on bicycles when i was driving that thing.

I WILL HOWEVER just have a beer with ya!

my first NEW car was a 94 ford escort, which I bought in a fit of rage in novemeber because I could no longer keep the thunderbird running. I had no garage to work in, and it was freezing outside as I tried to rebuild the carborator. I racked my knuckles something fierce, bled a lot, and that was that.   I had to push the thunderbird the last block to the dealers......and they gave me $300 towards it......that car wasn't worth $90 I bet!

the escort lasted until feb of 2005. It needed some exhaust work and because it was too old all the stuff would've had to been ordered special and would have cost what a nice down payment on a new car is!!!! so on valentines day 2005 I bought myself a valentines present 2005 mazda 3:

2004-2005 Mazda 3 s

My Red 1995 Probe GT was my favorite. When it was all waxed up it was just beautiful! But when we had to trade it in for a number of reasons it was just time. And man it was nice to get out of such a low-rider! it was a pain to get in and out of if you had any problems with your back! Oh I remember being leary of the headlights because they flipped up. I swore I would not be one of those people with the broken winky eye headlights! And I never was! lol

This pic doesn't do it justice tho. It is way too dark! My car was a pretty bright cherry red!

This car was ruined when a blown tire on the freeway came flying at me and got did a bunch of damage underneath. Completely messed up the oil system but I didn't know and I continued to drive it. Just bad.

Ah, do I have car stories!

My first car was a '79 Buick Century.  It was gray and huge, and I called it the USS Slug.  I bought it for $200 and it wasn't driveable.  My stepdad fixed it up and gave it to me for my birthday.  I drove my friends to a movie, and didn't know that the car had overheated along the way.  On the way home from the movie, it overheated again, water mixed in with the oil, and the engine seized.  So, really, the car lasted about an hour.

My second car was an '81 Olds Cutlass Supreme.  I paid $600 for it.  It was a blue color that sometimes looked green, gray, or even black.  I named it Louie after the Budweiser lizards.  It had it's share of problems, namely dieing when I tried to take off after a dead stop, but it was a good car.  I was sorry to see it go.

But I got an offer for a mini-van for $100.  I can't even remember the year or anything (80 something), but it was gray and I named it Frankenstien T Van.  My stepdad test drove it for me and picked it up and drove it home.  I went out to drive it around for the first time and the transmission went out.  My stepdad fixed that, and it worked reliably for a few weeks, so we got rid of Louie.  Then after I had it about a month, the transmission totally went out.

My fourth car was an '85 Olds Cutlass.  It was primer gray and aptly named Quatro.  One day I was driving home from work in a freezing rain, going up a hill that curved to the left.  Well, even though I turned the steering wheel to curve left, the car kept going straight, up over one curb and nose first into the other.  It broke both axles.  I cried.

Then I got a '79 Chevy Nova for $700 (my most expensive car so far!).  I named it Aldo.  It was pretty!  It was red with white racing stripes.  But, the frame was bent and someone had put a sunroof in it.  When my parents decided to buy a new car, they traded me their dark red '92 Chevy Lumina (only named Lumina) for Aldo, and sold Aldo to use as a downpayment for their new car.

Lumina served me well until one day, we took the cats to PetSmart, and when we came out the car wouldn't start.  It was probably just the battery or the starter, but I had had it with junk cars.  So I bought my blue '99 Saturn 3 door coupe which I named Pleasantly Blue.  Blue still serves me well.

That's the way the chevette was, first of all the gas pedal was as big as my thumb and sometimes I would accidentally nock it into reverse going down the interstate and it didn't change my forward speed at all.

A neighbor to us in Lincoln had one of those Lasers. I rode with him from Lincoln to Kansas City one day. His had the turbo on it and that thing would scoot right along too.
