Officer assaulted with colostomy bag

A teenager stopped by a police officer at the Grand Avenue Mall as a suspected truant became disruptive and threw his colostomy bag at the officer, department spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz said this morning.

The officer was responding to a truancy complaint at the downtown mall Monday at 1:17 p.m. and stopped the youth, who refused to tell the officer his name or age, she said. The suspect then became disruptive and threw his colostomy bag containing bodily waste at the officer.

A colostomy bag is a worn outside the stomach to collect feces, generally following colon surgery. Schwartz said the assault is considered an "injury to an officer" because of the potential harm from contamination.

I had a colostomy bag for 8 weeks after my colon surgery. Having that thing really stunk. I never got the urge to throw it at anyone though. I hated not being able to tuck in my shirts and always looking like a slob.

The bags are clear and after eating at McDonalds the first time after having it, I really got turned off McDonalds for quite some time.

I could empty my own bags, but my wife had to help me change them every few days. I had to use these special kind of seals that look just like Peach O's. My wife used to love Peach O's. Now she can't stand the thought of eating one. 

TMI? Yup. Gross? Yup . . . but the other option was death and I thought this was a better option yet at this point in my life.

damn, that stuff freaks me out. I know I will face something like it, someday. Today's dental visit will be the usual... "you really need to take better care of your teeth". I'm not sure what else I can do. Dentures (not Ventures) by 60?

Anyone else wondering why a teenager would have a colostomy bag?  Why didn't they explain THAT in the article?
