Does anybody still watch Las Vegas?

I have once, but I think that Riggs might be a fan:

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- NBC's casino drama "Las Vegas" is set to return for a fifth season in the fall without two of its stars, James Caan and Nikki Cox.

Caan wants to return to movies, while Cox's departure is said to stem from budget cuts. The show boasts a large ensemble cast and has moved from Mondays to Fridays, where viewership levels are lower.

Caan, Oscar-nominated for his turn as Sonny Corleone in "The Godfather," made his first foray into TV series with "Las Vegas," in which he plays the surveillance boss at a casino.

"I've had a wonderful four years, worked with great people and made friends for life working on 'Las Vegas,' but I'm eager to return to where my heart is, which is film, and due to the show's schedule, I missed some great opportunities to do that," Caan said. "I wish the show and everyone involved with it continued success."

In a 2005 Playboy interview with Playboy, Caan was less than enthusiastic about the show, saying that he never watched it, and that it sometimes strained credibility.

As for Cox, who plays a comely casino hostess, she said she was "very sad and shocked ... I wish them all the best of luck and had a great time working on the shows." Cox recently married comedian Jay Mohr.

"Las Vegas" ranks as the top program in the 9 p.m. Friday slot among adults 18-49, averaging a 2.8 rating/8 share in the demo and 9 million viewers.

WOW!

I love this show.

This is the first season that I made the decision NOT to watch a single episode.  Not because I don't like it, but because they have been very good about putting the entire season on DVD shortly after each season ends, so I thought it would be fun to watch it commercial free on DVD and have it be completely new.

Now it will REALLY mean something since it will basically be the final year.

The show can probably go on without Caan, and DEFINATELY doesn't get hurt with the loss of Nikki Cox.  Truth is Cox's character is probably the most useless on the show and I wonder if budget cuts isn't just a nice way to say "we don't need you here".

When it moved to Friday nights though I knew it was in trouble.  That's TV's graveyard the last ten years.  I bet it has one season after those two are gone and then disappears.

PS.  Caan said from DAY ONE he wouldn't do the show unless it was a serious weekly show, and it has often been cartoonish.

I love this show, although will admit when that owner lady, can't remember her name, went flying off the roof, that was a bit much.

I like Josh Dumahl.  Met him.  He was really quite pleasant to be around.  He's a good guy.

Since this was originally posted I watched two episodes of it.  Before that I was avoiding it so I can watch it on DVD later this year.

I have to say.  WOW!  It's as if the show has a whole new set of writers or something!  A show that used to be so upbeat and cheerful (almost reminded me of a modern day Fantasy Island or Love Boat) has become incredibly dark and depressing.

Maybe I shouldn't be surprised.  Two seasons ago the writers wrote the final show as a complete catastrophe, where everyone's life went to hell and the final scene showed the casino being imploded.  I remember watching that and sitting on the chair with my mouth open for about half a minute, in total shock.  I was sure they just ended the show unannounced.

The OTHER thing that shocked me is they have their season finale NEXT FRIDAY already!

What the hell!?!?!  Who ends their season the second week of MARCH!?!?!  Was this a short season?  I don't get it!
