Quartz is the most complex of all gemstones in terms of its crystal structure. Its physical and chemical properties are quite constant compared to rest of the gemstones. It is also the most abundant crystal. Quartz crystal specimen is quite impressive to look at and the price is not very high for even a very nice gem quality crystal. Quartz intensively used by crystal healers. Quartz cabochons and faceted / cut gems of tourmaline quartz and Smokey quartz are usually available in the market. However, loose faceted gems of clear quartz are not common. Most varieties of quartz are cut into beads and made into cabochons like rose quartz, agate and jasper.

I'm learning so much about stones, gems etc. today.

Ruby, I believe, in terms of beauty is the best looking gemstone of all. No doubt Ruby is the King of all gems. Ruby Specimens are very nice looking too because of the sharp contrasting Red color on gray or white matrix. Rubies range in all shades of Red and Pink. Pink Rubies are also called pink sapphires in many parts of the world including Australia. A clean transparent Ruby is hard to find and bigger than 2 carats faceted cut Ruby gems are very rare. Ruby is the Red colored variety of Sapphire family. It is very hard, second to diamond and is very durable.

V is for Variscite Variscite is a hydrous aluminum phosphate. It was first discovered in the Vogtland District of Germany. The material is usually veined with other minerals such as millisite or wardite. Colors of varisite vary only slightly between yellow green to slightly darker greens. The material is often misidentified as turquoise. Variscite is actually quite rare and beautiful. It is inexpensive because it is not a well known, therefore there is little demand for it.
