well maybe that's a good thing for the time being....unless RIAA hackers are trying to break it....

I just wrote my representative.

The new rates are bad enough, there's no way that making the fees retro active back to 2006 can even be legal. I'm just as disappointed in our law makers for passing this as I am with the RIAA. Do they not even look at this stuff before they stamp "approved" on it?

Thanks you guys.  Every letter sent helps.

I've spent a lot of time surfing the web the last two days, reading forums and gauging reaction.  I'm really starting to think this might be a real grass-roots movement that could make a difference.

Thanks Mz for finding and posting this.

I've already added it to the home page and will mention it on air later.

Maybe we need an info page that's got everything in one place? The detail of the problem, the links to write your congressmen and senators, a letter, the link to the petition, etc.

What I think would be awesome, would be a nationwide boycott or "strike" of all commercial music until the RIAA backs down. That would be so cool if a boycott could spread that everyone would just stop buying any big label cds or downloads. Keep going to concerts and anything that directly helps the artists, but just stop buying new RIAA controlled music.

A few conditions would have to be set that when these certain things happen, we will start buying music again. I know this would effect the artists too, but not nearly as much as the RIAA. And, once it did start to effect the artists, they would begin putting pressure on the RIAA themsleves.

I know its unlikely to be possible to get the entire country to cooperate, but it would be cool if it could happen.

That would be awesome Web, but I have a feeling it will work as well as the boycott to lower gas prices. But it would be totally cool if it did work.

Another thing I thought of on the MySpace front: Don't forget to post this in your blog. Blog posts are in a pretty good spot to be seen when someone looks at your profile. I also added one of the banners (I think I found it at webcastersunite.com or something like that) under my general interests section.

Morning all!

Webdude, a lot of the forums I've been checking out have thrown this idea around.

It would be SO cool if we could organize something like that.  But the truth is I think most people just wouldn't do it.

This is like so many other things, it's important to us, but to someone who doesn't listen to internet radio, that will not be affected by this decision, it would just be an inconvenience they're not willing to put up with.

It sure would be great though

Yeah, and I don't mean "don't buy music for one day" like the gas thing was, I mean a real boycott until all demands are met. My life would be pretty much uneffected if I didn't buy any new music for a few months . . . no gas for a few months would be a different story.

I suppose for many people buying new music is a much bigger part of their survival than it is for me.

Yes, it would be really hard to make successful. The thing about this though, it goes much deeper than just the Internet broadcasting rates . . . all the RIAA's crap could be used against them. Expose them, show how much money the artists really get from cd and download sales, bring the RIAA lawsuits back into the news again, etc. It would have to be stressed that it is war on the RIAA, not the artists.

I believe it would work, but getting the masses to participate would be almost impossible.
