25 Years without John Belushi

Growing up, while other kids idolized sport stars and guitar hero's I mostly idolized John Belushi.  Until my mid twenties I would say my biggest dream would have been to follow in his footsteps and be a performer on Saturday Night Live.  Only a profound lack of talent, inability to raise funds for a bus ticket and a fear of failure kept me from following that dream.

Today marks the 25'th year since Johns death.  It's so easy to dismiss him as another drug addicted super-star that didn't know his limitations, but I've read more on John Belushi than I've read on ANY other subject in my life, and I don't believe that to be the case.

I think John Belushi was a great man with a huge heart.  I think he wanted to make those around him happy at any cost and derived his only true happiness from hearing others laugh.  I also think he was completely unprepared and incapable of handling the fame that came along with his success (something that applies to several young stars today as well).

R.I.P. John!

man I remember this day 25 yrs ago....had the tv on for the 5:00 news on channel 4 with anchor John McCollough announcing it.  I remember calling my dad into the room "Hey John Belushi Died!" and we watched the coverage...

RIP, we are getting old! I do not remember where I was, but I was 12 and that was the year my mom died. I did love him. I remember my parents took us to see Pinocchio and it was sold out so we went to see Animal House instead. My parents laughed their butts off, but they almost did not make it through the whole movie- my brother and I were scarred for life! I love his brother too, sometimes I think John is his guardian angel.
