Oh man..tragedy here

Just found out a 12 year old girl (I knew her) committed suicide last night in Weipa!  She hung herself!  This is so tragic!  She was such a sweet girl!  I am trying to find out more right now but oh man...I am so shocked right now and am really feeling for her parents!

Oh that's terrible! Such a loss. You have to wonder what in a 12 year old girl's life would bring such sorrow to want to do that. I'm sorry to hear it.

That's so horrible- sorry to hear that happened not too far from you. I wonder if anyone had any idea. DOesn't life always seem to throw curveballs when you least expect it?

This is such a small close-knit town of 2000 and we all know each other but no one suspected anything was up!  There was a note left but not sure what happened yet!

it is very said.
Suicide is a very selfish act. I leave those around you wondering what they did wrong, why didn't they see the "signs" or what could they have done?
I lost a friend back in '94. Shot himself in the head up in his mom's third floor. We can't sort out why. Just accept the fact that he's not here.

Oh that is sad! I wonder if there was any depression. I know that played a factor with me and my troubles.

Sorry to hear this Jules........12 years old and feel there's nothing to live for......that's so heartbreaking.  I can't even begin to imagine how her parents are coping with this and the grief they must feel.

When I was a senior in high school I lost 10 classmates/friends to suicide within a six month period......it was the worst year of my life.  There were so many questions without answers, parents wanting to know what they did wrong, asking if I knew why.  I was 17 years old, had no answers to give them, no answers for my own questions.

I think that's why I've never attended any of my class reunions.  When the invitations arrive, it brings back too many painful memories of my last year of high school, and the questions still remain.

Oh this is just so horrible!  Parents...I know you probably do but please always talk to your children and let them know that you can come to you for anything!  OMG this 12 year old girl was pregnant!!!  That young!!!  It is so sad that this girl thought that death would be a better thing than facing her parents!!!  To see what her parents are going through now is just heartbreaking!!

That was one of the questions that was repeatedly asked Ruby.....was there some sort of pact or something between a few of them, but it seemed highly unlikely at the time; even now, I don't think any of them were connected.

This poor girl must have been filled with fear and thought suicide was her only option.

There's still such a horrible stigma attached to girls getting pregnant and teenage sex; and so many parents fear having very open conversations about sex with their kids......until many adults/parents face their own fears and attitudes about sex and are willing to discuss all aspects of sexuality with their kids, things like this will continue.

Climbing down off my soapbox now.

Kinda distressed right now as you could imagine!  But it's no use me or anyone else beating themselves up over what signs we could have seen to help prevent this senseless death.  It's her parents I am more concerned for now.  They loved that girl, were loving parents and why this girl could not face such wonderful family is beyond me!

i am so sorry to hear this... i can't imagine what her parents are going through right now or how they will ever heal from such a terrible tragedy   suicide creates such a huge ripple effect.  i think when people are so consumed by hopelessness, they just don't realize they're not only ending their lives, but also changing the lives of so many others.  thoughts and prayers for the family and the community that they can find a way to cope together...  so very sorry...

I was very depressed in 1990-91. I watched time pass, it made me anxious because I could never have that exact moment again. Part of it was because of me, my place in my life the other was my son was 5 years old and starting school. Man, "Cat's In the Craddle" was the theme. It still is. I don't like time to pass without touching it. I've been writing in a journal since New Year's eve January 1st-1991.
It keeps me sane most of the time. Every year I look back, look ahead etc. I have notice that I write in it less often.

Just reading of the Boston singer suicide reminded me of this.  I went to the Memorial of this little girl a couple of days ago!  It was so so sad!  Sad thing is that because she was a white girl she could not be buried in Weipa.  Her parents are now leaving town as they could not bury her here.  Soooo sad!!!  She had to be flown out to Cairns and they are going to bury her there.  I feel so badly for the parents.

It's a rule here...if you are not indigenous you cannot be buried here in Weipa or you cannot give birth to a baby here.  You have to fly out 2 months before you are due to give birth.
