We have a business so it always takes me a couple of days to get everything ready for the account, but for the first time in 10 years, I am early! The first two years we owed $7000 and that made me procrastinate doing them from that point on. The last couple of years have been not been so bad, I started paying quarterly and last year I got a refund. Looks like we might get a small one this year too.

How about you?

our taxes have been done. We got a refund but not a lot since we don't own a home and we don't ever get to claim the girl. It also doesn't help to have to pay the self-employment tax. I will not have to do that next year! I didn't make enough doing that before I quit!

I always get a refund, so mine's been done for about a month now.

Sorry too Darlene- at least it is not 7000! That killed us- we were on a payment plan and then owed again the next year! It took forever to get out of that hole!

If it makes you feel any better Darlene, in 2002 I owed $14,000 and in 2003 I owed $16,000!!!!

Never trust someone else to manage your financial affairs.  Lesson learned.

After the first year I figured she had it figured out.  I was wrong.

I wound up doing installment agreements with the IRS and eventually an offer in compromise to settle for about twenty cents on the dollar.

Since then it hasn't been a problem since my income has plummetted

Hopefully soon though it'll all be looking brighter!

Gosh Riggs that is harsh- I just figured you were like us and being self employed and waiting til the end to pay the taxes. Cool they settled though!

Nope.  I paid every three months some hefty amounts.  And I figured it was enough because it seemed to be about 30% or so of what I took home over the course of a quarter.

But once everything shook out with payroll, expenses that had to be depreciated as opposed to just written off, etc. we were way short the last two years.
