What's Your Specialty?

Just thinking about stuff and wondered what the FFR folks would say:

When you cook, what is your signature dish?
What sport were you / are you good at?
What hobby/activity do you do that is the ultimate expression of you?

For those who respond, thanks for playing along!

Mmm...my signature dish:  I have far too many but I really do cook a mean Macadamia crusted chicken with scalloped potatoes and Ratouillle for a non spicy dish

But spicy dish:  Devil's curry

Sport:  I played state representative Netball and softball!  I played hockey, soccer and touch football as well!

Hobby/Activity:  Music/Arts!  I play guitar and sax and have a singing background!  I also paint, draw and do sculpture!  I also am studying for a degree in Visual Arts right now.

I also have an interest in indigenous culture.

Hmm...

I've carried on the tradition of my fathers "tater" recipe and home made pizza's.  Those were the two things he was best known for making his own unique style of.

When I'm watching what I eat I make a heck of a low-fat, low-cal Calzone type thingy, but with a softer dough.  It's delicious.

That's about it on the food for me.

I used to be ok at Baseball, but to say I was ever GOOD at any sport would be a stretch.  I have NO depth perception.  So fly balls, long passes, etc. would just make me look spastic on the field

My hobby would have to be business.  Even with the radio thing, I love music and I love radio, but it's the business of music & radio that really excites me.

Now, G-Gal, if you're gonna start this kind of thread don't you know you're supposed to put your answers in the intial post?!?!

Mmmm! That curry sounds delish! How fun that you are into such a wide variety of arts!

Wow, very cool Riggsy! The calzone has me curious - recipe, or is it a secret? Business IS exciting - I'm very into product development myself.

Ancient Chinese Secret

Actually, I took a regular Calzone recipe, but tried several variations of lower fat and calorie substitutions until I came up with one that quite frankly I think tastes better than any calzone I've ever had.

My favorite one to make is a shrimp & spinach with swiss & provolone cheeses, along with some other schtuff.

geez if I'm truthful I got nothin'

I don't cook so when I do I'm just following a recipe and nothing special.

No sports- when I was young I was good at floor hockey. The guys were scared of me.(so I heard) I was only on a softball team but I wouldn't say I was good. Staking vamps count?

Hobbies: not much. Haven't really had the time. Making candles, stamping/making my own cards, chat online-lol, some video games. I used to do paint by numbers but I couldn't tell ya the last time I picked up a brush. I have an unfinished one and another I haven't even started.

Cooking: I'd have to say fried chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy and corn.

Sports: Not much now other than my stunt kites and boomerangs. In high school, I played football (offensive guard) and in track I did long jump, triple jump, a little pole vault, and was lead runner in the 400m relay. What I excelled most at was probably weight lifting. When I was a junior, I weighed 145 lbs and was bench pressing 245. I was in MUCH better shape then. lol

Hobbies: Too many.

Signature dish: hmmm?? I love to cook but I am like Woo, I just print out a recipe or follow one....
But I do get asked to bring my "famous" Kielbasa polish sausage dish when I go to "pot luck" parties...it's very easy.
Cut up Kielbasa and a can of beer mixed w/ a half cup brown sugar, mix together to a boil and simmer an hour... it's delish..serve it w/ hot mustard.

Sports: I played softball for about 10 years, like Riggs though, if you put me in the outfield I had no depth perception and the ball would go right over my head, so I was an infielder.
Then when Kaisha was about 7 to the age of 12 I coached her softball team.

Hobbies:  I used to jog/run regularly, and I did 5K's on the weekends, I loved doing them, not only because it kept me in great shape but I felt so good, UNTIL........... I blew my left knee out and I had a torn miniscus and torn ACL, and now I don't run anymore.  I had to have surgery and it was not fun, till this day my left knee has a huge scar on it, and it aches when it rains out.

At least it sounds like you had the smarts to stand still and let the ball go over your head.

I was that idiot that looked like a drunk in the outfield, running in, running out, running in, running to the side, before finally losing it completely and throwing my hands up in the air as if to say "where'd it go", only to have it drop down a foot in front of me

OK JR, you're right...I should anwer!

When you cook, what is your signature dish? I make a mean caribbean shrimp ceviche, an awesome grilled lobster tail, and my inarizushi is pretty good too!

What sport were you / are you good at? I'm a swimmer - was a lifeguard for awhile when I was younger and also lead swimmer for freestyle sprints and backstroke. I was pretty good at field hockey too, although I doubt I have the stamina anymore!

What hobby/activity do you do that is the ultimate expression of you? There's three things that are fndamentally me...
1. I love to study archeology and engage in site exploration, and I plan to participate in a dig in a couple years. Yes, I have the hots for Indiana Jones! {{lol}}
2. I'm still a writer at heart - it is the way I best express what's within. I write mostly fiction (gothic fantasy) and essays on life principles.
3. The funny part is I love to do the whtie girl jam in the car. i sing loudly, and probably badly, while I drive. Aretha franklin, Otis Redding, or anything that feels good! Haha!

{{lol}} It takes a special woman to do the whitie girl jam with confidence! I always think of the drunk girl (who's unfortunately driving at the time) jamming out to a song in The 40 Year Old Virgin! Haha!

I think I'm actually a pretty good cook.  I love making Italian dishes using my own home-made sauces with fresh seasonings or herbs.  I've also become quite good at making different Chinese and Japanese dishes; and I've tweaked different recipes people have given me for Mexican food to suit my taste.  But I never measure anything.

I never played on any school sports teams, but did play softball for a local bar for a few summers when I was younger; and I also played tennis....I just started playing again two summers ago when my youngest daughter joined the school's tennis team.

I have too many hobbies to list, but some things I really enjoy are video games, reading, shooting, fishing, making my own Native American jewelry (beadwork), and I love to play Poker or Euchre.  Oh yeah, and music too.

I don't really have a specialty.  But when I cook, I lean towards pasta dishes with chicken or shrimp.  Envariably, I add the same things in different combinations: Onions, peppers, s, broccoli or asparagas, garlic, and parmesan.  Usually in a white or pesto sauce instead of marinara.

Sports:  I like to watch and participate in almost every sport.  I'm probably not competitive in any though.  As a kid, it was mainly basketball and softball.  Now, it's bowling, badminton, and putt-putt with the kids.  I'll take up the real golf game when the kids are gone and I retire.

Hobbies now:  sudaku and card games like spades and Rook.   I love game nights with Sequence, Taboo, Pictionary, Cranium, etc.

Oh man, I love board games! I'm not usually very good at them (I'm not really competitive), but I love playing. At any rate...

Signature dish: I'm a baker, not a cook. I just asked my husband what my signature dish is, he smiled and said, "coookieees!" I do make some pretty mean chocolate chip cookies, even without eggs or corn, you can't tell the difference.

Sport: I was never a sporty kid. I loved swimming, but I never competed. But recently, I've been learning Tai Chi, and I've gotten tons of compliments that I look graceful, and no one believes that I've only been doing it for about 6 months. For someone who's never really been athletic, that makes me feel good.

Hobbies: All of my friends describe me as creative or crafty. I sew, I knit, I embroider and cross stitch, I quilt, I paint, I draw, I do computer art... Many here know I sewed my own wedding dress, my maid of honor's dress, my friend's wedding dress, etc. Basically, if I want to create something, I find a way to do it. I also have friends that call me "webby." I'm not sure if I like their choice of nickname, but they're referring to my ability to find just about anything on the internet. Such as, one will ask me, "Is such and such band still around," or "Is so and so actor still alive," my response is always, "well, let's look it up," and bring up Google. I really think it's a quest for knowledge more than anything.

You're on Darlene.  What's your fave.   I've probably got it.  Scrabble is one I used to love playing with my grandmother.  Haven't played it in years though.  The hubby never liked brain games.

I'll make some spinach artichoke dip.

Morning MzHartz.  What's Love it or it?  I'm always looking for a new game for game night.  Is it a board game?  My s' favorite games when they have slumber parties are Pit and Yahtzee Poker.

Love It or Hate It is kind of a board game. There's a spinner with topics on it. Someone spins the spinner, then everyone writes down something they love or hate about that topic. (We usually do that a few times to get a few different topics.) Then the answers are randomly read out loud, and each person has to guess who wrote it and whether they love it or hate it. You get points for guessing right, or you get points if no one guesses yours right.

I have a few specialty dishes. For Thanksgiving it's white chocolate chip macacamia nut cookies and my mom's recipe for sausage & potato stuffing. On the day to day, spaghetti sauce. My husband says the grilled steaks and the enchiladas rock.

As for sports, I'm horribly uncoordinated and inept I've never been good at any of them. I do like weight lifting, but have had to lay off as a result of tendonitis. One of my closest friends is a big golfer... he's threatening to teach me. Every time the subject comes up I simply ask if he really wants me in public wielding a club... that always gives him pause for thought.

At the moment, my "hobby" if you want to call it that is working on my house. I do all kinds of stuff around there. I'm not really artistic, so crafts don't generally appeal to me. I always wish I had the talent for such things.

Cross stitch takes such patience and concentration. A friend of mine used to do it in the Air Force when on watch duty to pass the time. He was just telling me about the crazy stuff he used to do - Led Zepplin images, dragons, etc. It completely changed my image of and respect for cross stitch!

Interesting! Weightlifting is great fun if you ask me, even though I'm a wimp. The endorphins are great! I wish I had a house to work on. There's something relaxing and rewarding about fixing things up, making it your own.
