You know I saw this story too and it really made me think.

WHY do they keep going?

What is the purpose of crime? Clearly it's not about the money.

If I were to risk my freedom to commit a crime for cash, I would stop when I had 1/10'th of the amount they had! I'd go somewhere nice, and live my life out in luxury, never needing to work again.

When you've got this kind of money and you just keep going and going for more and more, it's not even really about greed anymore is it?

Are these criminals just high on the excitement and danger of it all?

I think because of the danger, once they start, there's too much on the line if they stop. Too many people are relying on them at that point.

I think part of it too is the fact that so many people are involved. Granted someone was stock piling money, there were probably plenty of people at a lower level that sold drugs for them for "a living." It's not just a few guys that made some money and should quit while the quitting is good. It is more likely to be a network of flunkies trying to make an easy buck.
