I know JR wanted to see this project so I'll post some pics here.
This is our sound booth project at my church. The goal was to be moved into it by Easter weekend. I think we'll make it as all thats left with the construction stuff is to finish the wiring and I will put another coat of paint on some small items later tonight.
Here we go . . .
This is where all the equipment is now . . . sitting on a table at the back of the sanctuary. We turned around a short pew to help protect the wires from people walking by the table. Everything used to be in the little room where you can see some of the metal stool.
This is the little room where everyhting used to be. The new mixer is too wide to even fit in here:
This is all the equipment from the front side. I usually sit at the far end of the table with my laptop and record the service while also providing the live audio feed on the internet. The laptop you see runs the Power Point displays. The stack of equipement is a recording tape deck, a cassette player, a CD player, an AM/FM receiver, and four wireless mic receivers. Below the laptop on the cart is a DVD player and VCR. Those can all be fed into a projector mounted to the ceiling of the sanctuary. The new booth is right behind where I was standing when I took this picture.
This is the outside of the new booth. The walls are about 6' tall. The floor inside the booth is 24" up from the main floor of the sanctuary. The electrical conduits on the wall are getting covered with a wooden box. I'm painting the box tonight so it can be used tomorrow. All the wires will be fed from the old sound booth up and over the main doors and back down through that box.
This is the inside of the booth. That is the 18 feet of counter I've been working on this week. The counter is 36" up from the floor so we had to get tall chairs. But putting it at that height, it is comfortable to use standing as well as sitting. We got four of those chairs. We put the "peak" on the top of the wall to prevent anyone from sitting their coffee, etc on the top of the wall and having it get knocked over and into the equipment.
Finally, this is under the counter. I built this "raceway" to contain all the cords and wires. There are hinged doors that will flip down for easy access whenever we need to add, move, or change something. Another guy from our church built the metal counter supports. He did a really nice job on them. They are VERY solid.
We had a good crew the first day that we rough framed the booth, but since then it has been just two of us doing all the construction and one electrician. As soon as the electricial gets the wiring finished, we'll start moving in. I'll take a few more pics when all the equipment is in and hooked up.
