Hey Willie -

It looks like I may have someone on this board to discuss metal with!

Who is your favorite?  Or top 10 favorite metal bands / artists?

I think best interview was when someone did seperates with mettalica and Dave,

Dave said hey I effed up but it's in the past and I have talked with Lars and we might get together sometime.

Metallica says he's a loser, blah blah, it will never happen we all hate him...... he sux.....

Dave responds well it seemed like something might have happened, but James is obviously still hurt by the past and isn't willing to try anything new....

OMG, Sparky - I feel terrible.  Your post made me feel like crying (Guilt-inducing emoticon! furious)  Didn't mean it like that.  Let me start over:  Hey Willie - It looks like I may have someone NEW on this board to discuss metal with!  (How was that?)

I prefer the melodic stuff.  Iron Maiden is my favorite from your list.  Have you seen the "Ultimate Albums:  Number of the Beast" ?  We got the DVD recently.  (Great stuff!)

"Trick question - Lemmy is God!"    He is certainly one of a kind!

LS, I too am more into Metal even though I like a wide range of music.  I'd have to say some of my faves are Jimi Hendrix (in my opinion, he'll always remain the metal god), Rob Zombie, Korn, Pantera, Metallica (up until their last 2 or 3 albums which I think sux beyond belief), Zack Wylde/Black Label Society.......and some older ones too.....AC/DC, Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple, and of course Ozzy and Black Sabbath.

With your first batch of choices, you go a little heavier than I like.  I also prefer good singing - You know, nice voices.  Like I think that Jimi Hendrix has one of the sexiest voices of all time.  If the man never even picked up a guitar, I'd be totally enthralled with him!  Korn, Pantera, Hetfield - not the type of vocalists I prefer.  But AC/DC, Led Zep, JP, BOC, DP, Black Sabbath - very cool!

I like hard rock/metal as long as there is some sort of melody. Like LS, I also like it if the lead singer has a good voice. I also tend to like the older stuff. Jimi and Zep of course, AC/DC, Judas Priest (my dad played a lot of JP when he was in a band), Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult, old Metallica, Ozzy, etc. I'm sitting here going through some of these saying, wow, that is hard rock, isn't it. I just don't think of it that way. Hm, I guess older Aerosmith (such as Toys in the Attic) might be considered a bit harder too.

Yep, I like Hendrix's voice too.  And I wouldn't even consider Nickelback to be metal, but god, I sure do love the sound of Chad Kroeger's voice!!  smile

Oh yes, I forgot one of my favs, King Crimson. I don't really consider them hard rock, but I remember VH1 had a countdown of best hard rock songs, and they included 21st Century Schizoid Man.

I wouldn't think of them as hard rock either, but then again, if Jethro Tull can win Best HM...     (Yes, I too will never ever get over that one.)  Glad I do my own end of the year awards every year...

"Droney" vocals is what we call Chad's style.  My husband, who knows music like - well, one of the most knowledgable music fans I've ever met in my life(Which is a big reason I fell for him, of course) - He can't tell any of those singers apart.  It's so funny - to him, they all sound like Creed!    "Is this Creed?"  And I agree!    Yeah, that style of singing being the "in" thing seemed to happen so suddenly when "Grunge" came into play in the 90's.  Everything turned around then...

With obvious singer/songwriter exceptions (Boy Dylan, Neil Young, Amy Rigby, etc.) and the other type like the Mick Jaggers who (in addition to being songwriters) are 98% personality & performance, I always thought one should have a really good impressive voice to be a singer, ya know like Dennis DeYoung or Bruce Dickinson...  I have an old-school way of thinking there, I know...  "Is that Creed?"

Haha, that's funny LS....... is that Creed?  My husband does the same thing when I'm listening to the new metal stuff that's out, only he asks "Is that Godsmack??"......I think that's the only "new" music he knows.  My hubby is hopelessly stuck back in the '60's....he doesn't venture too far from the music of that era.

No, I'm young. And my parents are super young. Keep in mind, my mom was 17 when she had me...

In fact, now that I look it up, you're younger than my parents.

Woah! That's so weird - because I tend to think of you & I as being around the same age (Even though I know we aren't.)

I thought I posted this a while ago, but Korn has some good vocal stuff, one of few bands that has a vocal solo, and I don't mean singing without music.
